Sometimes, my head is all dandruffy, but the dandruff is all oozy and my head feels like an uncooked hamburger. It happens mostly when I wear a hat for extended periods of time. Its like this in the sectioning lines (i backcombed about 2 and 1/2 months ago. Is this normal, is it messing with my dreads, and is it preventable/ get rid of able? Thanks alot.

spinds like a condition thats more often found in infants but which ive gotten too and its probly from wearring the hatdss too much
do a deep cleanse extra heavu on the teatree and add risemary too
and dont wear a hat at all awhile
if it improves then wear a hat much less often then ya have been
i thoink in infants its called crib rot or somrthing

it maybe agrevated by both the hats and extra thichk dreads..when its hard for air to circulate near the scalp and fir you to get your fungers undrer the roots to scrape away the buildup heat and moisture and i guess bacteria combine to werak havoc on the skin
and once its started its just a breading ground for more
you wanna be pretty thourough with tryin to get rid of it..,,so no hats lotsa air and scrubbing the scalp thourogh\ly maybe double the wash schedule if u did weekly do twice a week once wioth dr b teatree then next time deep clkeandcse with extra (but not overboard) yeatree and rosemary
and if the hair seemsdry too id go foe some sorta conditioning too conditioning the hair conditions the scalp as well

if u try all that with no improvement in 2 weeks gimme a yeall might have other suggestions then

wow, that sound awful! I would actually like a picture to know more of what you are dealing with. Soaring Eagle has a great suggestion, especially with the Tea Tree Oil, it has natural antiseptic and antifungal properties....so here are some questions....

    1. Your head feels spongy...what does it SMELL like?

    2. Does it itch?

    3. How often do you wash and with what?

Sorry to pry, but it will probably help us solve your problem

I'm not sure if what you're talking about is similar to what I have, I have some dandruff and whenever I wash my hair my scalp gets softer and it's like there's built up skin on my head or something. Like a thin layer of white stuff I can scrap off. It's not enough to feel "spongy" but still kinda strange.

Lol, here it's called cradle cap.. not crib rot (if it's in fact what soaring eagle is talking about) sounds like it and my older kids have had it too, so it's not just an infant thing.

The treatment for infants in to oil the head and let it sit and then to comb it out.

You could perhaps rub small amounts of oil into your scalp and let it sit and scratch at it? It's kinda like dandruff, skin, grot build up, but it can be stubborn.

If in doubt go get a skin scrapping at the doc in case it's something more serious.

I think yours is just regular dandruff issues. I get that too. Its minimal if you wash every 2-3 days...or at least with me it is.

I would not put any oil on your head. It will only build up. I would wash it every other day. Before dreads was your hair oily? Cradle cap is build up of oils and dead skin.

i think i know what you're talking about. it's similar to baby's cradle cap, but a lil' different. i work with clients with developmental disabilities/physical handicaps, and one of the clients recently developed something like this, because he wears a helmet all the time due to seizures. it's a fungus kind of thing, having to do with dirty/wet/sweaty head always in a cap.

WASH YOUR HAT/TAM!!!!!!!! wash your HEAD!!!! (on a regular, at least weekly basis)

let both hat and hair dry COMPLETELY before putting the two together!!! you should see a big difference if you start doing this. tea tree oil... if it's not in your shampoo, put it in your shampoo or whatever you use to wash your head. it's a powerful antifungal, and should help get your scalp in better condition. hell, do a baking soda deep cleanse (minus the lemon, as that could make the scalp ickies worse, since it's acid) with LOTSA tea trea oil. that should help a LOT.

i have psoriasis of the scalp... and that sounds like what you are describing. it is also known as cradle cap like everyone said. not that im saying you have it, im not a doctor. but my head oozes sometimes and there are scales that seem like dandruff. whatever you do, do NOT scratch at it. definitely do what NTH says, make sure your hair is dry before you put a hat on, and dont wear it that often, you need as much air hitting the scalp as possible. and what i do to help alleviate the symptoms is apply tea tree oil mixed with olive oil to my scalp. aloe will immediately relieve the itching and soften the scales. ACV is good too, but sometimes it burns a little if you have an open sore. eating flax helps.

Sometimes oils will help loosen the flakes, so a quick try on the edges of your scalp is worth it, imo. do it before a normal wash, and apply your soap to the oil BEFORE you wet your head. I don't fully understand why, but it helps in the removal.
Not a full-blown slather your hair in hemp oil treatment like i do now. (parallel hair now)
