SO I always seem to come back to my stoner friends when Im in a jam. I wrote a check yesterday (saturday) for $300 to pay for an item a friend gave me. That three hundred dollars will not be in my account by tommorow, which Im assuming he will cash right away. My concern isnt damaging my account, but wether or not he will get his money. I figure the bank wont know until they can clear it so Im hoping he can get the money he is owed.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. As always, thanks guys :)

Just let him know what's up.
I don't think I understand the problem really.

He is expecting payment on monday when he goes to cash the check. My question is.. since I have insufficient funds in my account, will he still get the money regardless? I figure the bank wouldnt know right away since its a check and those dont clear right away.

Tell him he can't cash the check until you have money in there.

bouncing checks is illegal. if you have to write a check before you have sufficient funds, you have to date it the day that the funds will be available.

you should call him and ask him not to cash the check until later in the week.

Well hes actually expecting immediate payment.. this deal we made was informal and not legally binding, it was a swap for some audio equipment, but is there any chance he could get away with legal action you think? I dunno, just kinda sweatin it a bit.. :p

    Exactly.
Just let him know so he doesn't go in expecting money and walking out all pissed off.

    Exactly.
Would a friend try and take legal action?
Damn, why would anyone try that??
If it was that big of a problem, tell him he can have his shit back.
