Good day everyone, I was looking through the forums and stumbled upon somebodies signature that mentioned valentines day as a holiday of love, which no doubt it is supposed to be. However, I have always thought of valentines day a a more commercial holiday filled with hallmark cards, brand name chocolate, and materialistic gifts, and I personally think that we should love all year round instead. Do you think valentines day is a genuine day of love, or do you think it is a commercially run holiday....as so many are these days.
Most holidays where at some point a genuine celebration of love, family, rebirth, the dead, whatever, but capitalism has a horrible way of recicling everything into merchandise (even the image of people who where against capitalism, such as Che Guevara, who's face I see on shirts all over the place these days). So I think that Valentine's day ir like every other holiday: a celebration of love turned into yet another way to make money.
Maybe it can be a bit from both. I mean, I think that any day is good to show your love and how much you care to your loved ones, even without any material present, only by saying "I Love You" or something sincere. If someone really loves you, will not quit loving you just because you didn't give her/him a present on Valentine's. In other way, I must admit that's a nice day and sometimes is really enjoyable
