As requested, here are some pics of my dreads. They'll be 5 years old in February. I started them with the back combing method and use aloe vera to tame the frizzies, an all natural shampoo bar to wash, apple cidar vinegar to rinse and soak them in yummy herbal tea blends. No wax, no crocheting, no wrapping, elastic bands or string-just lots of love and patience.
Sorry the pics are so big!

    Thanks guys!
I'll try to post some pics of my hubby's dreads soon. He's got a ton of amazing dreads, about 6 months older than mine.

Wow! Those are very inpsiring dreads...I noticed you leave the bangs undreaded. Cool style...I might have consideredc doing the same, but my hair's too curly to match my dreadlocks.

After 4 years, my bangs just wouldn't dread, so I cut them to keep them out of my face. I have naturally curly hair too, but if I keep my bangs short, they don't get too crazy.

I see. It looks good on women I think to leave their bangs undreaded, IMO. My hair's the opposite, if I leave my hair short, it's too curly...it tames itself as it grows longer - more wavy. I'm actually having a little bit of trouble getting my bangs to dread at the moment as well, although they are only 6 weeks old so far...I'm hoping that the loose hair will dread with the semi-together sections in time. The rest of my hair is moving along quite well though.

bangs are often brished outta the eyes and accidently finger combed..i too had somne sections that were undreaded cause of that..i tied a knot in the end then flipped that knot through the roots in random directions ..only 3 or 4 times so it was still loose and wouldnt weaken em..from therre they dreaded fine

I totally remember how inspiring it was to see mature dreads when mine were babies. Once you get past 2-3 years, time goes by faster and you almost forget how long you've had dreads, because it feels like you've had them forever. I have close friends who have never known me without dreads, and when they see old photos of me with hair, they freak out.
I just realised today, after looking a my pics, how long my dreads are! After shrinking & tightening for so long, they are starting to grow really fast now.

I found some old pics of my dreads, and I thought I'd share them with you.

Here they are at 1 week after backcombing: (can we say crrrrazzy?)

    A shot at 1 year:

And a pic at almost 2 years: (notice that there hasn't been much growth, cause they're getting good & tight)

Hope that this helps those of you just starting out to be patient and don't give up hope! :)

when i started college my hair was dyed, and then as it grew out people started realising what my natural colour was and they were like 'what else dont we know..' and they got all suspicious of me =/

but i know what you mean when people dont know what you were like before... a few people id met after getting rid of my first dreads didnt believe that id had them 'cause the only way to get rid of them is to shave yer head,, duhh,, i proved them wrong, i showed them my ID card which is dreadful =D
