Hey all- I'm doing a project for my Sociology class, and I would so appreciate if you answered a couple quick questions for me.
I thought this would be a great place to conduct part of my survey as you guys might have some different opinions on deviance than the mainstream.

    So then.
    1. How do you personally define deviance? (no dictionary.com here- I would like what it is to YOU)
    2. What are some examples of deviant behavior to you?

Thank you so so much in advance! Free hugs to all who answer :)

    1. My personal connotations of deviance would be a sharp break from social mores and the established moral or ethical standards set by one's culture. It must be viewed from the standpoint of the group rather than of the individual.

    2. While I do it all the time and find no moral or ethical problem with it, smoking marijuana is an act of deviance. Sexual deviance is rampant among all corners of society, ranging from "sodomy" to bondage to pre-/extramarital affairs. Corruption of public servants is also very commonplace while maintaining the status of deviance.

More severe examples would be murder, torture, rape, or anything showing a total and blatant disregard for the wellbeing of others.

I'll take my hug whenever is convenient for you, but if I have to buy a plane ticket I may require some additional reimbursement:p

    1. Going against the flaccid norm of the phallus of society.

    2. Manually jacking off several young Christian children at the same time, and then proceeding to have hot passionate oral sex with them. After the oral sex, smear them with a mixture of shit and semen and then manipulate their tiny assholes. All deviate behaviors.

Hey guys, no worries if you don't have collegiate definitions-take a shot at it :) That is the point of my survey and research, that there are lots of differing opinions out there.
Thank you to those who have helped so far! You are AWESOME! love love love!

    1. umm ok. Deviance I'd say is like a little kid throwing a tantrum, muttering under your breath when you dont want to do something but have to, talking back.. that kinda quality. I cant explain it.
    2. deviants are people who set out to hurt others..

    they contradict.

    1. Deviance *to me* is not to conform to society's "standards" I suppose.. to rebel, to.. be eccentric..

    2. some examples of deviant behavior would be.. I dunno walk down the street naked.. burn a flag.. any form of rebellion against society, demonstrations and the like.. it could also be minor just do something unusal not necessarily harmful..

Deviance is that which leads to a loss in material wealth; deviants are those which squander or are incapable of producing material wealth.

Examples of squandering behavior are: drug consumption, unemployment, crime (esp. homicide and suicide), insurrection, promiscuity (giving life to dependents), the co-mingling of social classes, the disposal of extrata outside designated spaces.

Material wealth defines social standards; not the other way around. :piggy:

deviance is any change from what is normal.

thus making deviant behavior somewhat subjective. posting on these forums deviates from standard human behavior, but for me it would be a deviance to suddenly not post here.

deviance: pleasure in acts that bring pain, harm, misery or death to others.

deviant: the one who enjoys it.
