    Human Hair

Im not joking it really does work.

I got to school for cosmetology. Today in school this lady came in and came up to me and some of my friends because we were at the front desk. She was looking around at our salon that is in our school. We all thought that she was just checking out the place and thinking about making an appointment. She came up to us and was like "do you guys have any hair that i can have?" wanting to know why we asked her. She said that she has a deer problem in her garden and one of her friends told her to start putting human hair in her garden. She told us that it really did work. We went to our teachers and asked them and they said that it does really help.

So if you are having deer/rabbit problems go to a salon and ask for some hair.

    Just wanted to share.

    Peace & Love

I buzz cut about once a month and have been saving for about 6 mos. so far.

Another additive I hear works well is dryer lint, about 3 lbs saved so far. But wont have nearly enough for the size of garden I'm workng on but I figure I can see what crops they target mostly and use it around those.

On a really cool note thou, I've got a tiny little patch of flax and buckwheat growing (2,5'x4') just to check the soil. It seems the baby deer have been nibbling at them very conservativley as if they're trying to make sure there will be more for them later on :D
Theres a few running around the area that were no bigger than a Cocker Spaniel a few months back, way too frigign' cute. So young they dont quite know enough to run when they spot Humans yet.

I think I'm gonna' have to find some good winter hardy crops to plant for em', but it might be a bit late in the season.

My dad hangs dial soap in his trees. He's not the type to try something that isn't proven by a reputable source, so I think it must actually work.

wow we have a acre and a half of gardens,,that would cost us about 400 bucks a month to use..

we generally save our piss and use it around the perimeter of our gardens.. it works pretty well.

its been my experience that NOTHING is 100% fool proof when it comes to deer.if there hungry enough they will get your garden no matter what deterrent you use short of a 8 foot fence, and ive seen them jump them...

Hey HHB, have you ever tried planting a "Distraction crop", something they'll probably prefer more like Peas or beans that dont generally mind crappy or depleted soil and could likely be sown in any old stick dug hole in the ground?

Not that I have, but I'd think having a "better option" available to them in light of having to cope with hair-pee-lint otherwise might encourage them to forage on the distractor crop?? Not to mention it would help ensure your local Vennison supply would be plump and well fed. ;)

yeah we have tried that and its a bad idea unless your distraction crop will feed them the whole season and its tastier than what you have growing in your garden..
otherwise they will either eat the whole distraction crop then mover right into your garden or just bypass the distraction crop for what tastes better in your garden..

the best critter deterrent that i know of is a good dog.. hands down.

    I have a dream!

I dream of edible landscape "victory garden" companies that do the work for you, and then use a bow and arrow to also harvest the meat. We could turn the nation's yards into carbon sinking, food producing plots on a massive scale.

    Yum!
