How big are the gauges normally for a septum?
I haven't gotten it done, yet, but hopefully soon.
    Haven't gotten the needle.
Or the retainer for that matter.
    lawl.
But as god as my witness, it SHALL be done.

    Get it done professionally.

I've done a lot of my own piercings, but my septum is one I would never do myself. It takes a lot of looking and poking around to get the placement right, you can't possibly see it yrself. And it's really hard to not only pierce it straight, but to get it to heal straight.

My piercer had me wear a retainer, flipped up, for the first month or so, until it healed.

To this day I'm outrageously glad that I didn't do it myself.

14g is the average size most piercers use...but I agree with toolmaggot, this is one of those piercings that is really hard to do yourself, just because of placement...but its your choice..have fun =o)

Well my friend will be doing it for me.
And I trust him competely. He's very read up on these
things and is apprentincing for some dude at the local
    peircing/tattoo parlor.

But I was pretty sure it was a 14. Thanks.

And toolmaggot, yours looks great. I know this chick whose
is WAYYY too high and it just looks like shit. But yours is basically
    what I want.
    Imagicals looks purdy good too.

theres a certain spot where it is pierced called the sweet spot. you cant really determine how high or low it is, it has to do with your anatomy.
14g is usual, but you can get 16g or as big as your nose will accommodate. i had mine done at 10g.

Yeah, my sweet spot is actually really high... I can't wear a banana barbell in it like a lotta people I know can. Which is what I wanted. But oh well. It didn't hurt AT ALL and healed quick as shit. So it's worth it.

    Mine's done with a 16.

Im glad that I got it done professionally too. They have all the essential tools such as the septum clamp really helps with the placement of the piercing. Not only that, but I have seen septum piercings that are crooked, and they look like shit. I had mine done at 14 G and eventually I stretched it and its now at 8G. I hope to stretch it up to 2 G or 0 G sometime in the future. With septum piercings, you have to take A LOT of time to stretch it. Even longer than an Ear piercing. And each stretch actually hurts, it sometimes feels like its getting pierced again. I go in between 6 to 8 months in between stretches. After 6G, im gonna start taping it up.

Its a great piercing to have.

Yeah I'm pretty excited about it.
I want it done really bad.
I found the coolest green pincher to
put in when I actually get pierced.

    Toolmaggot, yours looks reeeeally cool.
I want mine dine a tad high. But then it
kinda limits what jewelry youcl can wear, so meh.

Well that cool green pincher should wait at least a month.

Wear a retainer in it until it's completely healed, or it'll probably end up crooked.

    Yes, I know.
    That would be slightly retarded.
