Or...should I say was....before he sold his soul for this election. The sad part is it's not going to work out for him, and he can't get his soul back.

McCain: "Here's what I really believe: That when you reach a certain level of comfort, there's nothing wrong with paying somewhat more."

since when is Socialism progress?? If anything, Socialism is devolution... Utopia with more bureaucracy...

It is amazing how the victim mentality has worked its way into this forum!

"Democracy and Socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude."

I don't think you know what socialism is.

Progressive is also a term used by people like me to define a political philosophy, since "liberal" doesn't cut it semantically.

Let's take a look at why the progressive tax is not socialist. According to the law of diminishing returns, every dollar you earn gives you less quality of life improvement in relation to the previous dollar you earned. So someone living off 1$ per day, for instance, sees a huge improvement in quality of life if they move to 2$ per day. Someone living off 500$ a day sees a comparatively miniscule improvement from the extra dollar.

let's say we assign a value, x, to the value we define as "your life becomes twice as good (or half as bad)". Think of it in terms of health outcomes, or whatever you wish. Assuming a flat tax of 15%, someone making a dollar a day will lose a very significant portion of their quality of life. The person living off 500$ will see almost no reduction in standard of living. Thus, it is unfair to tax income at a flat rate, something progressives call a "regressive tax". A flat tax takes 2x away from those with the lowest standard of living, while taking only a tiny fraction of x from those making the most.

Socialism is a political system defined by state ownership of all assets. Explain to me how a progressive tax is socialism, and explain to me why it is unfair, and I will vote for John McCain.

Heh. He will just say that you're wrong. According to most conservatives, if a conservative makes an assertion, that, of itself, makes that assertion automatically true. As opposed to the views held by "the reality-based community."
