Meh. I'm not that bothered about finding out, to be honest. I have ice-cream soup in the fridge that kind of needs eating.

As an atheist who's tripped a few times.. I'll put it in a simple fashion. As someone stated before I do in fact perceive most things as being influenced by chemicals and therefore don't get all, "Dude we're not alone." This doesn't mean I don't think about life and stuff. I just don't let it get to me. I feel like no matter how hard you trip or how much you think about certain things, you just won't solve them. There's no point in trying to find a solution. It's like magic. It's funner to watch when you don't know the solution behind it.

I stop trying to figure out why the world works how it works and all of life's unsolved mysteries and just enjoy them for what they are.

Awww, magic's no fun if you don't at least try to think how it worked. Or rather, two magic tricks that are virtually identical can be completely different if you're trying to figure out how they're done. If you just take it as magic, there's no different between, say, making someone levitate, and making someone levitate and passing a hoop over them.

Well what is the ether element but that which lies beyond the senses grasp? Ether is everything we do not understand, if I understand it correctly.

But then again, do we really understand, with our many technical and philosophic advancements, more of the spirit world than those living a thousand years ago? I don't mean to compare the average person on Earth from each era, but are the wisest men on earth in 2008 any wiser than the wisest of 1008?

Can science and knowledge really help with spiritual mysteries, or do they just cover them with misinformation? Science seems pretty fickle to me.

You say fickle, I say open minded and progressive.

I don't exactly hear about millions of people communication over the wold wide spirit web.

If your looking for science to explain spiritual mysteries in favor of their existence you'll be in for a disappointment.

Set your denial shields on high if you must...

The spirit or soul is an imaginary answer spread by religious minds to describe a biological condition that occurs when billions of brain cells work in harmony to create a state more significant than their sum total. A fragile state called self-consciousness to which the vast majority of the population does not have the capacity to understand or come to terms with. A state that slowly builds intensity within the developing youth and fades away with the decay of old age.

To believe the "soul" is anything more requires faith which is a conviction of ignorance.

Yea I dont believe in a soul myself. Nor do I believe that what I call God is a conscious entity which is manifesting reality and that we have some kind of afterlife to spend with it to look forward too.
But yet, there is a self generating energy field within and without, infinite in all directions, and I love it wether or not it has the ability to love me back.

You're unaware of the theory of the collective unconscious? I don't personally believe in it, but it's pretty famous. So I figure if you'd investigated the subject at all, you'd have heard of it, and if you haven't investigated the subject at all, you probably shouldn't be talking about it?

Sorry, why is what you've just said supposed to upset people? Your description here is possible by virtue of being incomplete rather than correct. It's not specific enough to be wrong or right.

I can't respect a rationalist who lacks the balls to reason. Playing it safe is what twunts like Richard Dawkins get away with.

You're unaware of the Gaia Hypothesis?
Sorry, it has NOTHING AT ALL to do with your post but I thought I'd just randomly jam the question in there to distract you from the fact that I have NO REAL REBUTTAL to your statements!!

Sorry that I didn't explain it in great enough detail to your satisfaction there, as if I've got nothing better to do with my time. But feel free to dance around the post and voice your objection without posting any real counter argument.

UNconscious is unconscious. It has no decided worth for the psychological connection of What we want as people or as individuals. The truth was and is at Idealism. The web of Life was meant to Work out the environment.

Such is the impersonal development for facts of quantitatively physical values of existence which include forest fires in the same breath as infrastructure corrections for various regions of the country in light of sustained culture and economics (sadly the culture does not change from the previous century). From such the nature of physics may take a turn of discovery for new innovations in profitable and non-profiatable environmental issues. And that is the functional basis of a meaningful Gaia. Particles really direct the biologically improvable Consciousness in turn as a Holistic psychoanalysis.

    I think.

You said: "I don't exactly hear about millions of people communication over the wold wide spirit web." I don't see how my mention of the collective unconscious would have nothing to do with the above.

Of course, it's possible that you meant something other than how I interpreted your post and merely expressed it poorly. That's why grammar is a good idea. Another reason grammar is a good idea is because it makes you look less insane.

Well actually, it was precisely my point, that you've described something that cannot possibly be argued against simply because it is so incredibly vague. How could anyone offer a "counter-argument" when you're not even making an argument?

And to be honest, if you're so busy that you don't have time to express your points cogently, and if your response to people's interpretations of your posts is going to be to criticise them for not interpreting them as you'd wish it, I'd humbly suggest that you could be spending your time better by just not posting at all. I say this because you appear to be getting a lot of false impressions as a result of people being unable to decipher your rushed posts, and obviously you wouldn't want that, would you?

i thought it was one of the best things ive heard relaxxx say, and I dont really like his opinions.

I think the soul is a bit more than that, but only in the sense that it represents a part of human experience, a set of factors that we pose in ourselves and other people that we feel are beyond our means to ever possibly predict or analyse. so it is technically beyond physics. but that means physics as a study and not as the actual universe that we suppose to exist out there beyond our experience. So I believe it represents something that in itself is physical but is so deep inside a person and made up of such abstract relations that it will always surpass any human mechanism for understanding it as a physical construct. Which means it is reasonable to think of it as metaphysical. It is reasonable to think of the soul as a magical element of our being.

I think it is more reasonable to consider the soul as a concept more than an actual aspect of the universe we live in. IT is a very meaningful concept that refers to a number of things, but it is still just a referential, abstract notion that can not be understood in exactness but in generality. It does not manifest in one action of a person but in all of their actions. It does not 'logically' begin and end, it just has different levels of being seen, and these levels might rise from 0 and lower to 0, thus simulating a beginning and end. This opens the possibility for reincarnations or other domains of the soul, 'logically'.

but I have faith that our soul is purely physical and it does begin and end at some point, or at least fade on and fade off. it cannot seperate from the body though. it is a function of an organ.

Thinking about things being "beyond physics", SB: do you believe that the soul can ever be known by science?

I think the reason relaxxx's post is being ridiculed is that he is describing something he cannot possibly know as if it was not only fact but so obvious that you'd have to be a complete idiot to even query it.

Ridiculed by two infantile cowards who don't have the balls to defend their point of view so they go off on obscure insulting tangents of self gratification.

The FACT is there is no evidence to support the existence of souls other than debunked biblical fairytales and exposed con artists like Silvia Brown. They know there is no credible evidence or even logical explanation so they don't even dare touch it.

I did not exist before my physical mind. Many believe souls predate our physical so why do I have no recollection of before? Since my entire consciousness and being OBVIOUSLY depends ENTIRELY on my physical chemical gray matter state and is drastically altered and even blacked out by physical chemicals there is no reason to believe that my consciousness, what makes ME MYSELF, will exist beyond the physical after my mind is gone. Even if there was some sort of soul, what's the point of believing if it retains not information from past states? The popular religious belief suggests that I MYSELF will continue on afterwards, retaining self awareness in a better place if rewarded or worse place if punished. Of course it does, religion is all about denial, gratification and control. Ignorance is bliss.

Where is my grandmothers "soul" or "self" right now? Where is the wonderful "spirit" I once knew and loved? Her BODY is still living in a home, her mental state is equivalent to a 3 year old with her "self" nowhere to be found. Where is John Graziano's "self" right now with part of his brain smashed out of his head. In the ignorant words of Hulk Hogan "God laid some heavy shit on him". So the faithfully ignorant believe HE exists somewhere. Where? Please do explain your beliefs!

Why would a higher power, an enlightened spirit far superior to the painfully flawed physical world and biological beings, why would it waste it's time in lower miserable states. It's like if you could eat anything you want but you decide to make yourself suffer, "I'll pass on that succulent juicy steak and choke down this rotten maggoty old potato".

Oh Jesus Christ, God's in the closet cutting himself again! WTF!?? Give me a fucking break! Get over yourself, the answer IS OBVIOUS!!!!

    .

You know what lifts my "spirits"? When a nice trim female ass walks by. Why is that shape intoxicating? why am I compelled as if by some supernatural force to stare at the female form? Because my mind is conditioned to feel that way from millions of years of evolution. You know what else man had been conditioned to feel from millions of years? Spirituality. Believe in my campfire spirits or starve, believe in my God or die!

A soul doesn't necessarily have to exist forever.

And no I don't think that there will be an explanation of the soul in physics. It would be pointless anyway. The soul is more of a concept, which we embellish with our confidences. It represents an inner essence of someone. Their POV. The 'string' of their conscioussnes. The enduring factor of their psychic being.
Its more of an inherently subjective matter, like trying to explain what colour is with science. You can 'explain' it all you want but you can never trully identify what we mean when we say 'red', through physics.
