    Just think it's funny.

Highschool is so cliquey.... everyone has to fit in a very specific category.

I work one day a week at a hippyish store, and for the most part, very tie dyed people come in... but there's this group of goth highschoolers who sometimes come in, saying 'groovy' and stuff... it's quite hilarious.

I am so glad I am not in H.S. now a days...
When I was in h.s. is wasnt so bad, wasnt even close as to what it is now like in h.s.
I feel for youngins nowadays, school now, is more about fitting in and such..

I agree..it wasn't until I got out of highschool till I realized I didn't need anyone to validate me, and it was okay to just be myself. Fuck everyone else.

I think you can get away with a lot more now appearance-wise than you could when I was in high school. We didn't have goth hippies or gravers or anything like that. I can't think of a single person in my class who would've been described as even a standard sort of hippie or punk. There was one sort of goth girl. We had a handful of skaters and some wannabe-G's. Being in the middle of nowhere PA certainly added to the homogeneity. There just wasn't the variety of styles there are today. Or, I should say that the various styles weren't as prevalent then as they are now and there wasn't as much cross-pollination. I think that's one of the distinguishing features of today's kids, that blending of styles, and I think it's really cool.

I never got beat up or anything in HS but I was called weird sometimes. I went to HS in a small southern town where there just were'nt many open minded people and if they were they were too scared to be themselves. I did get most original out my class though!

You know whats weird no one started lableing me until after H.S. ...when i was in H.S. they just all told me how weird i was, and sometimes strangley i dressed....then after I graduated lots of people started saying i was a hippie...even my husband still says it....i tell them i am not...i am just Kelly...but the funny thing is our neighboor upstairs..she has started to dress more like me..borrow my hemp necklaces...and the other day..some guy yelled out the window HIPPIE...and she was so happy...and got all excited...i laughed because i thought i was funny

i was known as that "long haired hippie kid who makes hemp" i found it funny. i learned through my friends that everyone knew who i was. constantly id walk down the hall and people would say hi to me. i had usually met them once or twice, couldnt for the life of me remember their names, but often people i had no recollection of what so ever would say hi to me. it was weird at first but i got used to it. we had cliques and what not but i usually just ended up befriending many different people. i found that was a good way to avoid and confrontations.

    peace, bob

The last time i was in high school it was bad, that was in 1989. Everybody had to fit into a certain group. It was like you better have the modern expensive clothing or you would not fit in. The community i lived in was more of a republican community. It was not know to me to be the most friendly place to live either. My school also had a lot of bullies in it. Alot of the people, if i said hello they would look at me like i was stupid. Then to top it all off you have those who like to spread rumors that arent true. Like me i did'nt date in high school, so some mean person started spreading a rumor that was'nt true, saying that i was gay. I did'nt have any friends in high school and was treated like a total outcast because of all the mean and untrue stuff that was going around about me. On top of all of this i had learning disabilities and Bipolar disorder, I could'nt take anymore of it so i quit.

things are so much different in England! because we dont have "high schools" as such, we have secondary schools and we have to wear a uniform and so nobody really sees what people dress like. Id say the skool is seperated into 3, the grungers/goths/me then theres that boring group who just follow the trends like sheep and then you have the full on tarts! x

Im just glad after everything i have been through that i qualify for social security. I get 584.00 a month from uncle sam. Without it i could'nt survive. You cant find a decent job to make a living without a high school diploma and with learning disabilities and Bipolar disorder added ontop of that. It just does'nt work, I have made the effort though, But trust me high school in the united states is really messed up, no doubt about it.

I couldn't say I fell into any of the groups you named. I don't really hang out with a group at school, so that might count for it. I'm just that "other" category.

I don't think anyone really is all of a certain thing. there is no real definite definition to goth, punk, or hippie...just stereotypes

High school sucked. I went to a rough school so I got hassled. Why? To this day I don't know. But anyway that all ended 17 years ago. We wore uniforms too, but it seemed that any variation of the norm (even like how you buttoned your shirt) and someone came to chop you down. You had to wear brand name shoes too, heaven help you if your parents couldn't afford it.

Anyway, onto the original question. These days I'm seeing a lot of hippie/fuckers. They look like hippies (if one can define a look) but there is no peace and love to be found in these people. They sell their wares at these hippie markets I go to occasionally but they're all arseholes.
