Their songwriting still stood out, even in the early days. Are you sure they were growing pretentious, and not just growing as musicians?

I think it's an absolute travesty that Rolling Stones named "Like A Rolling Stone" the best song of all time.

I don't understand at all what people see in Dylan's music. To me it's not technically impressive, or imaginative. Is it an american thing? Is it because he influenced so much of today's culture? I don't know, but just looking at the man's music, I am left quite unimpressed. Can anyone recommend some of their fave dylan tracks so I can look into it some more? I've heard all his biggest hits, and meh. Even his voice and singing style is irritating, how he sometimes will "speak" a verse instead of singing it . . . I don't know. It's just so far from anything I would consider good music, there is no refinement, nothing deep to it (other than the oh-so-rare-in-music anti-establishment sentiment), nothing to make me stop and say "hey wow who is that on the radio, that is some good music!".

I feel alienated from 90% of rock fans :\

Both were equally important but each in different ways. Dylan is generally considered one of the greatest song writers of all time and Hendrix was in many ways the father of hard rock.

    Both are great.

I would rather listen to Hendrix any day of the week. i think bob dylan made a bigger impact on rock bc what he sang about in he early 60's. That being said The Beatles are the best band ever hands down. Sure dylan influenced the Beatles writing as did they influence him picking up the electric guitar.
