I think mephist00 made a good point as well. Seems to be the case with a lot of people.

Just because there's not a lot of music I'm into doesnt make most music crap. Nor can I blame other people for my taste in music. Noone had the obligation to make music I like, nor do I as a musican have to make music for anyone other than myself. I couldnt care less if someone likes or dont like my stuff. Always feel good getting compliments when people like it though. :)

Agree. Autotuners and heavy duty noise filters that are used a lot in pop music these days totally ruins it. It takes all the soul out of the music. Makes it sound like something was developed in a lab.

But on the other side, without technology - ie. The internet - it would be MUCH, MUCH harder for people to discover cool music. Now, sitting at home, you can listen to a small local band somewhere in Argentina, and it's not a big deal. That's brilliant, I think.

    well said..

i agree that technology has its ups and downs in the music world..

but technology has made things alot easier in music.. and creation of music with technology.. these days anyone can make music on there pc ect.. doesnt mean you are great.. but musicians who can take advatage of the features in technology, really can make good music.

best technology i think is in mini recording studios, like those little 4 track/8 track ect.. very small and portable, lots of effects, great recording features.. being able to record instantly, play it back and then dub another sound over it.. such as a solo or bass.. i love those things :)

speaking of internet music, have any of you guys seen: www.pandora.com

its a radio station, u can make your own radio stations with your favorite bands, really a great website.. but the biggest feature is you find ALOT of new music there related to your genre of music by typing in your favorite bands.

More technology for music is always good, it's up to the musicians how much they indulge in it. I still like it not to clean and stuff yeah, but in some genres it really adds to the sound. Like dub, trip hop, psystuff and often in space rock as well (although a natural distorted or even acoustic guitar really fits as well).

I didn't really like most of the recommendations Pandora made for me. Do you know Last.fm? That's one of my favourite sources for me to find new (and old!) good stuff nowadays. Just click the 'similar artists' on the page of a band you dig and check out if you like them. Although some bands put whole songs on their page, most tracks are about 30 secs. Most of the time I use soulseek to give it a better listen :)

Technology is bad for music when it tries to muffle its soul...and that's exactly what 90% of tech is doing now.....ref My Chemical Romance and other nonsense bands. I'm NOT stuck in the past..I'm only saying that psychedelic music is a good example of how tech has ENHANCED music and NOT making it wimpy like most pop music today.:hat:

Agree with that. I technology can be used properly, to make a better product, then why wouldnt you use it? I really dont buy into the whole argument that rock and roll is better when it's without modern technology. You only have to listen to one of Comets On Fire's first 3 albums to hear some kick arse rock and roll, that wouldnt have been possible to make without mini samplers and multi-tracking etc.

I'm glad the digital stuff make me able to do an unlimited amount of takes without the tape starting to flutter or added tape hiss. Still, as a gearhead I like the old stuff too. The best combination imho would be using the computer solely for recording (and hiss reduction of course) and analog "outboard" gear, like effects and mixers. But then I'm not really after a "modern" sound either and I prefer minimalist recordings simply because I'm lazy and I'm supposed to do it for my own enjoyment only. :D:p

I freaking love this form. Been looking for a spiritual place full of people with open minds and love. Expect to see more of me on here. I would like to add 1 group I came across recently to this post. They are called Damage. The lyrics are very thought provoking. Which is the kind of music I am going for in my life currently. I love music that inspires me and drives me to better myself in every aspect of my life.

    Mad Love To You All..........

Laziness in music should be wiped out.....that's why 95% of music made today is SHEER GARBAGE.

I thought that's because of musicians motivated by their urge to get the big money. If they're lazy they wouldn't get a record deal. :D

Why even listen to new music, stick to Floyd, Neil Young, Hendrix, Beatles, Doors, Moody Blues, Clapton, Dylan Zeppelin, Queen, Who and you're set for life.

    You maybe. :D

Why even think of music in decades? After all it's more about the kind(s) of music you like, not the year(s) of origin.

Of course I'm NOT saying that ALL today's music is nonsense.....just browse VERY THOROughly in places like Myspace and YOU be the judge......BUT just DO NOT pick up for good anything you happen to listen to. Let the TRUE music touch your mind and heart and eveything will go fine.:cheers2::toetap05:

Wimpy music like disco-duck crap is a very small part of music. So I would just ignore it if it's so annoying.

I don't think a lot of bands and musicians care about that at all. Or they're in it for the money or they're doing their own thing anyway.
