I dont think they hinder it....if anything they probablly help. doo rags, hats, and tams train the hair to lay flatter if you have crazy dreadlets that want to stick straight up and it creates friction which creates knots. I dont wear doo rags [ those are bandanas right?] but I do wear a tam at night and have noticed considerable knotted growth from it. But of course, everything in moderation. I wouldnt reccomend wearing anything over your dreads 24/7 because your scalp and hair need time to breathe and move freely...I usually wear my hair up during the day so it can be exposed to the sunshine and air, and then wear a tam like I said only when I sleep so it can knot up more and stuff.

do rags werll i personaly think they look rediculouse ..wannabe ganfsta ..i think as far as dreads go they'd fit too tight flatten too much and prevent movement but if they do encourasge knottiness i bet theyd encourafe 1 great bog knot..
just a guess tho id never wear 1 but sorta seems logicak to me..they seem too restrictive

The best things to wear on your head to help encourage the dreading process are loose tams/hats made out of wool and/or silk.

That's because everyone's hair AND circumstances are different.

Personally, I think doo rag's are poser-gear, but that's just me. Then again, I was told I have to wear one under my motorcycle helmet. I would think if you were following everyone's advice on here, wearing a doo rag wouldn't hurt anything. Just as long as it wasn't too tight, or worn for too long.

I'm not sure why, but my knitted, recycled silk hat helped to knot my dreads up in their baby phase, when I wore it to bed. I tried wool hats, but wool makes me super itchy, even the softer stuff.

If we are talking about bandanas I am interested in the input. I wear one, usually once a week depending on my mood. I think it helps a little as long as you wear it loosely.
I don't think it's "poser" gear, I have many different colors and modes of wearing to fit my mood of the day....I am not trying to impress anyone or be special....if I feel like wearing a bandana I do.:D

It's different for guys than it is for women. For guys, it's generally associated with anything positive.

I have a couple of do rags...Just wanted to add. Does that make me a poser or does it make me a person who sees a do rag as just another, if not overpriced, method of keeping ones dreads out of their face??? :)

Are you really seeking an answer regarding my opinion? Because it looks like you've already answered it in your post.

    Indeed!

I just think that most people I see wearing them are wanna-be gangsters, thugs, middle-aged poser motorcyclists, and chemotherapy patients. I wasn't looking to offend you or anyone else. Just noting the stereotype. And like I said, I wear one under my helmet, as that is what I was told to do to keep my dreads happy under there; so I guess I am a poser too... :D

seriously, cut your judgemental bullshit, you're fucking annoying and you look an ignorant fool. i wear affliction, monarchy, warrior, hostility clothing. so i guess i'm also a poser? you got problem with that? you can go fuck youself. i'll wear what i want and its none of your business.

people like you is the main reason why dreads are somewhat still unacceptable
