there's one thing that Obama say that got H.Clinton all hopping stamping mad and then Palin , too , her retort only more devilish - and of this thing Obama say , it get a sniddly derisive response by McCain . who is this upstart new man who would speak to our enemy Venezuela or Cuba or North Korea or Iran or Hamas ? In foreign affairs , Obama will talk to all and enemies included . shunning shall not be practiced . i think this is more peaceful . i don't like my govt to make and maintain enemies for me . i don't need that like i don't need a satan . i will only vote for a peace candidate . the presidency has enormous , nearly exclusive influence in foreign relations . an openness of conversation is constructive to peace . why should this be disrespected ? Obama's position gets flaming passionate opposition . it goes against the tradition of war .
you're funny... and uninformed.... Both McCain and Obama want a strong presence in the Middle East and around the world. McCain wants it in Iraq and Obama wants it in Afghanistan. They both want a continuation of the same foreign policy we have seen for decades now- preventive war, occupation, policing the world, and nation building. Tell me where the peace is in that? If you were really voting for "peace" you'd be voting third party. I'm not trying to be militaristic, just matter-of-fact..
And Venezuela is an enemy because? Chavez enjoyed warm relations with the Clinton administration. It wasn't until Bush brought his cowboy approach to foreign policy to the world stage that relations between the US and many Latin American countries soured. Obama's diplomacy would be a step in the right direction. However, it's disturbing that he has already followed McCain's line in accepting Venezuela's status as that of an enemy to be negotiated with, rather than another nation with differing ideas that is in no way a threat. Or better yet, a friend to be won back....
The peace is in the attitude "We'll talk to our enemies, even if they are our enemies." The peace is the rejection of Bush's "We'll talk to Iran after they dismantle their nuclear program." (i.e. We'll talk after they do what we want, but not before.) Talking is not weakness, talking to your enemies is one way to deal with them. Admitting the possibility of war does not decrease the value or importance of talking. A man with a gun who talks to his enemies is more peaceful than a man with a gun who doesn't. The first man has more options than the "shoot or loose" situation the second fellow has put himself into. A president who looks at both negotiated and armed resolutions to conflict has more options than a president who rejects either of the two.
yet this directly contradicts Obama's policy statements in dealing with Afghanistan. directly. In fact, it is uncanny how his words almost mimick Bush's.
I'm not sure what comments you are talking about. The one's where he said that the priciple of Hot Pursuit applies when getting Bin Laden. (i.e. we'll enter a country and get him first, tell the government later.) Obama is no pacifist. But he does not regard our talking to someone as a reward for that person/countries behaviour.
