I hope this isn't too far off topic, but since its the only part of the forum I regular, I'd like to hear from some of you guys. I am considering getting below my lip pierced, in the dead center, righht above my chin, a bit below my lip. I think I've noticed some of you guys have similar piercings. Would I be forced to leave a stud in 24/7? Does it run a big risk of infection? Will there always be a little hole there, even if years down the road I decide to take it out?
    Thanks for the advice :cheers2:

you won't always have to wear a stud, but for the first couple of months/years, you will. like all piercings, it runs the risk of infection. and there may always be a little hole there if you let it heal completely.

itll be alright i have my tongue done and that only took a week before i could put a new ring in... u wont have to wear a stud in 24/7 after a week or so you should beable to switch it aslong as it doesnt get infected.

i wore one for several years, I found the i guess they are call fish tail style of bars alot more comfortable. But you most likely won't be able to put one in till it is healed up pretty well.

i have a vertical labret! i like it better than a regular labret because it doesnt actually touch the inside of your mouth.
and depending on your body, the hole will close up sooner or faster. for some people it takes 20 minutes to close up, for others it takes a year.

i used to have my labret pierced, but took it out because it was wearing away my gums.... i still have a scar where the hole was tho.... i dont have any other facial piercings, I always toy with the idea of getting my ears done tho. I do have my nipple and tongue pierced tho :)

I'm just thinking of the regular labret one. The rubbing against my gums thing is a bit concerning though.

    i have a labret/lip and a septum atm.
mine dont close up but thats only b/c they are years old and i stretched them in the past. the septum was 4g, now probly 14g and my lip was 6g but is only 16g now. they took a couple weeks to shrink down that much.
if you have a standard 14g lip piercing, you should expect it to close up quite a lot in a day or less once its healed. for the first two months or so (longer if you have complications) you should not take it out or change it. if you let it close up, you will have a little hole. some people scar more than others. mine was stretched so i have more than the usual scar tissue, but it still isnt very noticable and doesnt look bad.
some people have problems with labrets rubbing their gums but with proper placement by a good piercer that shouldnt be a problem. keep an eye on it regardless.
whenever you puncture your skin there is a risk of infection. but its a low risk. true infections are very rare in piercings and its not likely to happen to you unless you roll around in shit or something. irritation, abcesses or hypertrophic scarring are often mistaken for infection but are much more benign.
you should educate yourself on the risks of piercing and on aftercare before you get it done.
    good luck :)

my boyfriend had his lip pierced in the middle for a short period of time, he took it out years ago, and you can still see the hole now! i had mine done at the side for about three years, took it out a while ago and it hasnt closed up yet! i took it out cos it kept getting in the way of my teeth, it chipped my tooth a few times, biting on it hurts like a mofo! might be different in the middle though?

I use to be a piercer, you won't have to wear a stud too long, just a week or two. As for me, I have 2 in my lip, my nose, ears, and both eyebrows done.

i'm not sure what you're talking about "the stud" for a labret piercing. the regular labret flat post on bottom, whatever you want "ball" on the top can be put in right away (or a ring if that's what you prefer), if you're getting a real piercing, not poking yourself with an ear piercing stud gun.

i had my labret for a while, but i kept biting it, and i ended up taking it out and piercing the side of my lip, where i wear a ring. i like that so much better. i also have my right nostril pierced, with a ring in it.
