one generation from segregation to President Obama. Evolution speeds up and slows down as it will, eh?
Yes, I did. I totally stand by my claim-- America is one of the least racist countries in the world. I was much more surprised by the fact that he won the nomination in the first place, because that part wasn't up to the majority of US citizens.
I could hardly sleep last night...I was so excited, not only that Obama is the first black president, but that he is the first candidate in a long time that gives me hope...I can't wait to see what he does, and how he is able to make the changes that he says he will make...
I want to say Thank You Hippies! It seems to me that many forces and waves in this society get some credit for this outcome, but the counter culture movement with its equality and acceptance has to be right near the top. Shocked the old world out of its tracks and set up the new way of thinking. Thanks
Today a black dude told us, "What a great day for my race! Today I'm proud to be black!" A white woman responded, "Obama's half white, and it's a great day for my race too!" Don't know what it all means, but .......... Have fun and play safely!
Now we can look forward to the day where people stop being proud of being black, or white, or purple, and start being proud because they're equal to everyone else.
Do you really think that we are all equal to everyone else? That's difficult for me to imagine. IMO none of us are equal to anyone else … we are each individuals … very different than anyone else in the entire world. Even the identical (biovular) twins that I have known are NOT identical! Some are short, some are tall … some are quicker learners than others … some are better athletes … some are older … some are weaker … some are more brave … some are more ……… What’s the percentage of blacks in the U.S.? Maybe 15% What’s the percentage of blacks in the NBA? Maybe 80% Methinks that indicates that blacks, in general, are a lot better basketball players than any other race or ethnicity. The only thing that I’m better at is being me! Spaced06 - - I apologize in advance for coming on so strongly. Ethnic heritage is one of the things that differentiates us and I get hot under the collar when I hear the politically correct bullshit that we are all equal! Have fun and play safely!
I actually feel kinda sorry for him , I hope he realises the mess he is going to have to try to fix. It will be impossible to do it all in 4 years.
I actually thought the first black president would be republican. If not for Bush and the economy, I still think that would have proved true.
I'm certainly glad that it was Obama an not at republican. I guess that is my prejudice showing; it seems to me that many of the black republicans are sellouts (Uncle Tom and house ****** are two non-PC terms) who are on the right only for their own advancement. I don't think anything is going to be changed. The puppetmasters have written their scripts and Obama shall follow or i fear he may be put to sleep by our gov't like so many others.... caugh JFK caugh and pretty much everyone who may have tried to open up our minds...
Many (most?) of the republicanized blacks are either uncle toms or house niggers. Sold their souls to whitey for a false feeling of equality. Some obvious exceptions ... Dr. Condoleezza Rice ... Gen Colin Powell ... add your own favorites if desired. IMO President Elect Obama is neither of these ... he is a straight up red white and blue American ... and I voted for him twice!
The fact that we are all equal doesn't mean we are all the same. I understand the importance of ethnic heritage, and I understand that we are all different, but what I meant by "we are all equal" is that no one is worth more than another, no one has the right to impose himself, his beliefs, whatever, onto another because he thinks it's "better". Nothing is good or bad, you decide on it, and no one's decisions about reality (this is basicaly what beliefs and opinions are) are better or more important than others. But I agree with you, stating that we are all the same would be ridiculous.
all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others - Orwell "He that looks for the glory in the entrails of Babylon, he that with the progress continues shortening the hours, doesn’t comprehend what it is to feel the Earth conscience."
Personally I would have liked to see that by this point we would have not cared what color he is but that the best man for the job got elected. Sadly this thread shows that we are still not beyond looking at people for there color and are all happy that we got to see a black man win. Who by the way is half white. We need to get over the race thing. I think it will be a bigger day in history when a woman can get elected into office than a black guy. But hey thats just me. I don't care what color you are I care about what do you have to offer. Peace
I'm not looking so much at his race as I am at the fact that racist Amerika could elect a man of color to the presidency when within my lifetime there were white/colored water fountains, rest rooms, and schools in some states of this wonderful country I live in. Same here.I saw those same things you did when I was a kid. But I hoped we were passed those times or even thinking about them. Those were different times we need to move on. remember we don't judge a man by the color of his skin but by the content of his character Peace
If we don't look over our shoulder now and again there is a very good chance that our past may catch up with us ... and even overtake us. We've got to beware! Who's right if everybody's wrong? . . .
