Hi my dreads are 3 weeks old and I love em. made with back combing and crocheting methods. Anyways im using dr bonners once a week and 99.9% aloe vera gel to tame the frizz (at the roots) and I used the tea and viniger mixture that someone suggested to stop the itch which worked a treat I am spraying them with salt water the day before washing to help them lock........anyway at the mo there is about an inch of root which is fine but im just concerned that the roots wont lock up and the dreads will just grow out IYSWIM. I love them soooo much I dont want them to grow out I was told to rub the roots against my scalp every 3 weeks but have since heard this is bad for your hair and can cause breakage which I dont want. I guess im just after reasureance from all you lovely dready folk that my roots will lock and my dreads wont grow out thanks xxxxxxxx
Time patience and faith are all that're required. When you find yourself worrying about your dreads, find something constructive to say or do. For me, I started my dreads about 3 weeks ago as well. Backcombing then PERMED... So, I'm at the same place as you are in regard to time, but my hair was pretty long when I got mine. It's scary to wash at first, but they won't come undone as you've now experienced. Keep reading the forums. You will start to get a clearer picture of what's what. You will read about many techniques, and see many peoples experiences. In that you'll find people that have had dreads for YEARS that still aren't satisfied with the looks or the niggling details (ends, roots, frizz, etc.) Just be patient, and love them for what they are. They will take care of themselves if you just clean them on a schedule that's right for your hair/skin type.
:hat:Your roots will dread there are times when some of mine are loose and other times when they are seriously knotty
Hey bud I went through the stages of back combing them at least once every 2 weeks, and obsessed so much about the roots (still do a bit now ) When I first started using the deep clense solution, I couldnt actually believe how tight my dreadies felt after it! Still dont now! It dreads from tip up to the root, so dont worry about it man Some of mine are being silly and not dreading down it, but are knotting up at the roots! Peace of the Grove /|\ Alex
dreads wqill always have an inch or so loose at the roots theres nothing to worry bout thats normal mine after 18 years have an inch at the roots but as u can see are dreaded all 5-6 feet along em the reasons is hair rows out straight not twisted into knots..it needs that 1 inch room to move as it grows to knot your hair will always grow so there will always be a lil bit that hasnt had time or room to knot let ut do what it does dreads happen wether u force em or let em foecing em isnit bery gently though so can do some dmage
