Please use this thread to post up quotes from famous activists.

    Here's one that I like...

"If there is no struggle there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightening. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, and it may be both moral and physical, but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress." - Frederick Douglass Aug. 4, 1857

Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth - more than ruin - more even than death - Thought is subversive and revolutionary, obstructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world and the chief glory of man.

Many people would sooner die than think; In fact they do so.

    Bertrand Russell.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world: indeed it's the only thing that ever has.

I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do, because I notice it always coincides with their own desires.
    Susan B. Anthony

I do not consider divorce an evil by any means. It is just as much a refuge for women married to brutal men as Canada was to the slaves of brutal masters.
    Susan B. Anthony

I don't want to die as long as I can work; the minute I can not, I want to go.

This country belongs to the people and whenever they shall grow weary of their government they can exercise their constitutional right to amend it, or revolutionary right to dismember it or overthrow it. Abraham Lincoln

If we make peaceful revolution impossible, we make violent revolution inevitable. John F. Kennedy

I am leaving this legacy to all of you ... to bring peace, justice, equality, love and a fulfillment of what our lives should be. Without vision, the people will perish, and without courage and inspiration, dreams will die-- the dream of freedom and peace.
    Rosa Parks

We who in engage in nonviolent direct action are not the creators of tension. We merely bring to the surface the hidden tension that is already alive.

Please forgive my long post, as most of my favorite activists are musicians and my favorite quotes are their lyrics...

"Miles cable, claws, driller killer ripping holes, all tattered the cloth stained, regaining.
All the weather, acid rains, so sweet sweat streaks downpoured on humility.
Colder time, talking hints, watching tests of heat, mangled meat, retaliate! No blaming.
In future dreams could you have stopped it from happening?
Best left a spectator? Spectacle? Traitor!
All the time's, placed, first place!
Farther down, pull the trigger, gauging, gauging.
Cars kills at will, melted profits, book burning.
How undone, written slurs, the meaning...
Oh the pasts they will repeat, hard to hit, so are beat.
Melted profits, the past, melting, under honor.
Cars kill at will, cars kill at will.
Mr. Fables' rolls, altogether mutating. The chains rattle, happy to perform!
In the war of famine, no where arid food growing now.
Warming trends the place, passive cows to feed the weak.
Product waste! Give back. Oil coming in.
Make a million living things suffer, hidden, black garbage body bags.
What of that change that could save everything?
That paper shredder, patent tender, puts us back in time again.
Exxon, your black hearts make me sick.
Budgets that burst with oil, crude gas in purse. No compassion, common criminals seek asylum.
Concrete pillow, Exxon dreams, hidden hierarchy. No one in power taking blame."
    - Skinny Puppy - Hexonxonx
If it doesn't make sense reading it, listen to it... if you still don't get it read up on Exxon's dirty history...

"From the Cadillac soup kitchens, to the impoverished board rooms, this Orwellian nightmare is now every mans dream. Burn the Empires down...
As you stand in line, in your efficiency drive, a voice from the checkout screams, "Burn the Empires down...""
    - Snog - Empires

"The guy who's there on the T.V. screen, he not not really human, not a robot, he's in between.
Al Qaeda, Bin Ladin and the terror ruse. The economy, productivity and money, it's not the truth.
It's all lies. it's all lies. I tell you once again, it's all lies.
Black magic swells around you like a velvet curtain, mesmeric current direct all our steps, I'm certain.
AIDS, bird flu and every panic strain. It's a war of fear against your brain.
It's all lies. it's all lies. I tell you once again, it's all lies."
    - Snog - It's All Lies
