Don't worry Jen, you'll be fine. Yeah it's unpleasant for sure but your doctor knows what she/he's doing and will talk you through the whole thing, particularly if you tell them it's your first time. And yeah, it may hurt but if you're relaxed it's a lot easier as well. And it'll be over really quickly.

Awww...it's going to be okay, I promise! I know exactly how you feel though. I was really freaked out the first time I went to the OB/GYN (I started crying during the first visit because I was so shy!), but you know, it's really not all that bad, a tad uncomfortable but not painful, and it's done and over with quickly. Plus, they will usually try and get your mind off of it, talk to you about other things, at least, that's what mine have done. And then you'll feel relieved when it's all over with, glad that you finally got it out of the way!

I mean hey, it's definitely not fun and I never look forward to my appointments (who does really?), but you've got to do what you've got to do for your health! It will be just fine. Try not to get yourself too worked up...and hey, why don't you tell the nurse or doctor before the actual exam about how you're feeling. I bet they'll do all they can to reassure you and make sure things go smoothly for you.

Speaking of which, I'm way overdue for my own yearly!

I have to say something about that! Who the fuck are you telling someone who is scared to grow up!
Going to get a smear (i presume thats what she is going for as she hasnt had sex) is a scarey thing, its not bloody nice really - if you've never been then your not used to anyone seeing your downstairs. You shouldnt make comment like that grrrr

It doesnt hurt but some women can find it uncomfortable, what the nurse will do is ask you to tke off your trousers and pants and lay on the table, they will ask you to open your legs so they can get to the right bit - the worst bit is taking of your trousers. Tell the nurse its your first time and she will relax you and stuff. They put a spectrum into you, that doesnt hurt at all. They dont you up by a foot or anything just a bit.
Then she will get a cotton bud type thing and take samples from your cervix. Then the samples go onto a glass plate (when shes finished) and gets sent off to a lab for analysis.
The whole thing will be over in minutes - ask her to warm up the spectrum for you as well, the cold might make you jump! It did with me lol.
Just stay calm and relaxed, do some deep brething. When you have finished you wont know what all the fuss was about x x x

I hade my appointment today it hurt so bad the tool she used was to big and that’s why it hurt way more. She got a metal one that was smaller. So it was not as bad. She said I should not have to go for a couple of years. Since I am not having sex and everything looks good :)

sorry, orison, i understand your passionate response but that was a bit much. perhaps you can relate your experience in a more reasonable tone? it's a valuable view and lets us know that women are not the only ones who suffer when they get cancer.

i haven`t been to a gynecologist ever, but if i have to go i would. Its nothing to be embarrassed about, its just a pussy. He/she had seen so much in his professional career i don`t think he/she would even look at u while examining

The more you can relax, the less it hurts. If you are relaxed you may feel a bit of discomfort, but not pain.

While going in for a yearly exam may be uncomfortable, and less than appealing, death or infertility seem so much worse. Cancer is not the only reason to have a yearly exam done. Women can get vaginal infections, even without having sex, that can leave them infertile. It is your body, and you only get one, so take good care of it.
