Well, there is the condition called lycanthropy... while most people believe it is when one person thinks they can turn into a wolf or were-wolf, it in fact means a person believes they can turn into a wide range of animals, differing from one person to another. I've seen cases of people thinking they were cats or horses. There are also people with a variety of conditions which lead people to think they are too vampires, including the one where they are allergic to sunlight. Do I believe in the old school stories of vampires? No. There are too many brands and kinds of vampires from different lores and legends from all over the globe. No one picks to be the rotting-corpse vampires these days... they all want to be the sexy-sort from the movies. And no one can sustain themselves on blood. As for werewolves, again, I do not believe it. There has unfortunately never been any concrete evidence of either. I'd really like some... and perhaps some evidence of more like cryptos like sasquatch
I have a vivid memory from when i was a young kid like 7, 8, or 9 years old. Me and my mom were sitting outside of a store in Phili hangin' out while our peers were in the store and 2 dark looking figures walked by and as I intently watched them walk by me slowly, they were staring back at me... intently. It was a young guy and a young girl. Once they were right in front of me still walking, the guy hissed the most horrible hiss I've ever heard whilst showing me his horrifying fangs... I knew he was a vampire right away and I still believe he was... and is.
If you guys want a scary werewolf story, look up the beast of Bray Road. That shit is a real mind fuck.
See that's something you shouldn't be doing, is taking examples from the sheeple public and stamp them onto every other aspect of life like the paranormal and psychic. He was a vampire... I knows it.
One thing I hate is how people immediately abandon any thought related to the supernatural. There are certain things in this world that may be supernatural, why does every person who experience something have to be crazy, delusional, or a liar?
Chris, you only think that because you're seeing a stoopid monkey no one else can Also, someone mentioned liking lycanthropes... it's interesting to note werewolves were never referred to as lycans until that stupid Underworld movie franchise started. I hate seeing how people refer to werewolves as lycans (not here, on other forums) because it just shows how uninformed people (particularily some young people) are about the real mythology behind werewolves. I'm also sick of all these books and movies based on one particular facet in the vampire lore (that being the pretty ones). Why not get something out there on the gross, corpsey vampires? Could make a good thriller. The problem with people who believe they are vampires or werewolves and come off as crazy ... well, unfortunately they usually do have some sort of problem. It can be scientifically proven. I do however agree that science can only go so far - it's been no help with the ghost phenominon, though there has been physical evidence amassed. And it's mostly in denial of the possibility of EBEs, even if it's just being ignorant if one thinks Earth is the only planet able to sustain life.
Who gives a damn if people call them Lycans? It doesn't mean they are misinformed or anything of the like. I was a werewolf fan before I even saw the Underworld movies, and I call them lycans sometime. All it is, is a node to the name lycantrophe, so don't get your panties in a bunch. The Underworld movies rule, btw.
vampires all around us... just not in the way the movies portray them. Vampires are people who suck the life force from others and I've crossed paths with many.
lol i never seen that movie i was talking about all lycanthropes like a wear bear a wear wolf a wear owl etc
No, it's not. Check your facts, dear. I'm very into cryptozoology, and snake grass and myself are correct. In fact, it's actually called clinical lycanthropy. Most things you'll find on the internet will tell you it corrisponds to werewolves, but keep digging, and you'll actually find the truth. Also, the reason I was offended by people's use of lycan as a term for werewolves is because, as I've mentioned, I'm seriously interested in cryptozoology, and no one seriously interested in the topic calls it that. Young kids and and people uneducated about the entire aspect of the topic call it that. There are a lot of people who feel that way. unexplained-mysteries.com has a great forums for discussion on these kinds of topics if you'd like to broden your horizon, Griffin.
I didn't mean it's only meant to refer to werewolves, I just think that's what it's largely associated with. Also, as I said before, someone could have a lot of knowledge about the subject matter and still call werewolves lycans. I have plenty of knowledge on the subject matter, and I call werewolves lycans as well. By using a particular name, it doesn't diminish the particular knowledge you have on said subject.
I'm not really stooopid, Vana, and I had the same Basic thought as Chris - that werewolves would be referred to as lycanthropes, and from your little speech, I still don't understand why they should Not be referred to as such. I was under the (apparent Wrong) assumption that All shapeshifters would be referred to as lycanthropes...and would honestly appreciate you giving us all a (quick) "course" in why Lycanthrope is such a wrong term to use.
That's what I don't understand. Why is it wrong for werewolves to be called lycans, when it's obviously short for lycantrophe? It's basically something that was thrown out there to see if people could catch where the name was form...and besides that, I'm pretty sure people were using the term lycan long before the Underworld movies came along.
Because "lycan" isn't actually a word. I could understand if breaking down lycanthrope into lycan and thrope meant wolf and were, but it does not. That's why. And as I said previously, lycan was not used before the film. Ever. Oh, except the name of a character from Star Wars. In fact, the short form people actually used/use is were or weres. Edit: Therefore, I do accept your argument, Lynnbrown, that werewolves can be called lycanthropes, but not lycans. Not the same thing, except within the movie 'verse of Underworld.
Vana doesn't make any sense at all, lycan is taken from the word lycantrophe, so therefore it is a word.
