How Bush Killed the American Dream

    At this moment the "American Dream" is more like the "American Nightmare." It's a scary scene where everything you thought America stood for has been compromised and exploited. The Bush Administration RAPED America for eight years, and we barely let out a peep. Perhaps that's because the violence of 9/11 left most of us in shock, unable to speak out. Since then we've been helpless victims, unable to fight back.

    Some believe 9/11 was something America deserved. Our fancy lifestyles were the envy of the world. Everyone wanted to live like an American, to be an American, to experience our freedoms. That was the American Dream.

    It lies shattered now, among the ruins of Katrina, in the blood soaked sands of Iraq and Afghanistan, in the long lines at homeless shelters, in the hollowed out investments of hard working people, in the bulging pockets of friends and lobbyists, in the infamous Cuban cages where justice never shines.

    Bush really killed the American dream. 9/11 may be seared in our consciousness as an emotional trauma, but Bush traumatized the world in revenge. Add the unilateral declaration of two wars on sovereign states, to the horrific abuses of human rights, to loss of privacy, to the incompetent Katrina reaction, to the incredible economic failure, to the pandering to special interests, to the disregard of our ever deteriorating environment, and Bush is without peer.

    Indeed, the latest national polls show G.W. Bush is now the worst president in US history, with a less favorable rating than even Nixon, just before his resignation.

    To all those who spoke out against the Bush Administration from the first day:

    YOU WERE RIGHT!

    Somebody needed to say that! Now we have someone coming to power who also spoke out. America and the world are rejoicing at this turn of events.

    And now, the great cleansing is coming! On January 20, 2009, the truth about the abuses of the Bush admin will be made public. Even the spy agencies can't wait for him to go, because they want to make public exactly how the Bushies violated America's privacy laws.

    This is GREAT news! It will start the process of cleansing America's collective psyche of the incredible traumas we experienced during the Bush administration. The world too, is breathlessly awaiting this transition from unilateralism to collective action and responsibility. It will also reaffirm America's respect for human rights, privacy, free speech and the rule of law.

    What's truly amazing about this is there is so much more to come from Obama's administration. While I doubt he'll be able to please everyone, for a change, now WE are being taken into consideration.


    The American Dream isn't just for an elite few. It's for college students, newlyweds, the elderly, the poor, the sick, immigrants, minorities, gays and you too! Equally. This is not entitlement. This is our hope for our future.

    Obama represents the best chance I have seen in my 54 years at recapturing the spirit of America that existed in the early 1960s, during the Kennedy years. He deserves our patience and all the support we can give him.

    On the first day he takes office we will see the new course he sets for America. Citizens will be called upon to help clear the decks, man the rigging and set sail like Columbus did; not sure of the course nor the destination, but with the hope that we can find that wonderful dream we all share. GoBama!

    Hmmm, no High School Diploma "he dropped out" , dishonorable discharge from the AirForce, went on to win 4 Grammy Awards and made 20 Million+ "as a comedian, not working a 9 to 5" NOT only did he believe it , he lived it.

    Perhaps we can echo the words spoken by JFK- "ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."

    9-11 did Bush such a HUGE favor it's hard not to wonder if his administration knew about it and allowed it to happen. I'm not entirely convinced that wasn't the case but prefer to believe that they weren't complicit because that would constitute an overt act of aggression of the government against its innocent citizens.

    The attacks cultivated a fear in much of the population that the Bush Syndicate nurtured like a victory garden and exploited to discourage any real opposition to his assault on the constitution and our freedoms and basic rights. It also paved the way for the violation of international law taking place in Iraq. Worse, the fear planted in so many caused them to assume that opposition to the assaults on our freedoms and privacy would be treasonous and un-American.

    We were fearful of an enemy we thought we couldn't see but what many did not realize that we were looking at the enemy himself as he gave a state of the union address or press conference. This enemy has many faces and has attacked all phases of daily life- including our prosperity. The deregulation orgy that has been a hallmark of the past eight years has seen the wealthiest reach so far into our pockets that the consumer end of the economy is all but dead. The military and corporate regime that has robbed the middle class and destroyed America's global reputation and lost international respect need to be tried as the criminals they are.

    I do not envy Barrack Obama- he has an immense job to do but with our help he may well succeed.

    Do you support this definition? Because it's the best argument for very steep estate tax. It's what Republicans tried to get repealed by calling it the "death tax" and lobbying for creation of a new aristocracy.

    I'm not sure that Americans realize that the Bush Admin recently faced two unprecedented choices. They could bail out the banks, ensuring that all individual and corporate debts remained active on someone's books. Or they could've just let the banks fail, ERASING all bank held debt in America. That would've freed up enormous amounts of money for most businesses and individuals, sparking a huge CASH spending spree by everyone, stimulating the economy from the bottom up!

    But NO! Far better to keep EVERYONE in debt, slaving to payoff high interest loans and putting us and our children and grandchildren in debt for decades to come, just to enrich the few bankers at the top (and their shareholders).

    As Stinkfoot pointed out, that keeps the money at the top of the pyramid, and puts our future generations, even those yet unborn in debt to those elite.

    That is the economic revolution we need. Debt erasure. Let the banks and creditors go under. They're the ones responsible for this mess with their gambling with our futures! They should suffer, and free the rest of America from this endless debt bondage and usurious interest rates that no one can afford to pay.

    one small sticking point: had the banks failed, the debt would not have been erased. It would have been sold at auction, as per bankruptcy law.

    I do think Obama is living the American dream. I think the America dream is alive but suffering traumatic injury.

    It's up to US to save it. Freedom is not free.

    We bear some responsibility to be vigilant by seeing to it that those newly installed do not exploit the chaos and defining that price in terms of wealth and further disenfranchising middle America. Our job BEGINS with clearing house in Washing ton but it doesn't end after the polls close.

    News Flash: Obama wants to pull out of Iraq, and turn Iraq back over to terrorists (who want and will try to destroy America!), and send troops to Afghanistan.

    Again...let this soak ...and read it slow: Obama...wants to send American troops...to ''the blood soaked sands of Afghanistan.''

    So, Obama is a war monger, like Bush and Cheney, right?

    C'mon...say it....admit it.

    You voted blindly for ''change''....but, unfortunately it will be ''change'' for the worst. You don't know who Barack Obama is. You only know what the liberal media has told you who he is. Obama was protected by the liberal media prior to the election. No one questioned Obama or his past.

    Now read, what I posted last week in one of your threads, about how Obama is going to destroy the ''America Dream''

    After 9/11, our whole country stood behind Bush, and the world was eager to do the same. His approval ratings were above 90%. It was the subsequent stumbling and bumbling, and unilateralist neocon warmongering that turned public opinion.

    So if by "standing behind bush like you stood behind obama" you meant "giving him the benefit of the doubt until you have overwhelming evidence that your trust is misplaced", then our country will surely recover.

    As for Keith Olberman, why are you talking about candy when the topic is food? It makes as much sense as bringing up Bill O'Reilly. Neither is news. It's partisan entertainment.

    And who would have had the cash to buy it? Who would want it? That's the whole crux of the problem!

    Instead that debt is now SHARED by all Americans because the US gov't has bought it up big time.

    Isn't that the socialism you fear?

    The Gov't could've just in one stroke negated that debt by letting the banks fail. No one else wanted that debt. BUSH did it to save the elitists who back him.

    China may have the cash, but they're losing big time on their American investments already. Don't think they want more. In fact they've had to shell out more than the US (per capita) for a Chinese stimulus package.

    You are missing the point that this debt could NEVER be sold because no one could even price it.

    no one WANTED to price it, because the truth was painful. I am well aware of the chinese action that just took place, and they may just have saved our asses.

    Why would the chinese buy our debt? because they own so many of our dollars. they can't afford to see the US economy tank.
