And Today The Owner Told Me...

Not Only Did The "Old Dear" Appreciate The Kind Thought...

But She Clearly Had Tears In Her Eyes.....

and I know what you mean Dave. I have a soft spot for old people, and always always always feel bad for them, for some reason or another.

especially when they are driving really slow, and I get pissed off about "this asshole in front of me"... come to find out it's an old guy doing 20mph.

I could slap myself every time.

 

buy them what they need next time. It doesn't have to be in the form of money.

Maybe if you were all "Hey! Can i get that for you?" And just pick up the tomatos and then go pay for them for him, instead of handing him cash. Well anyway. Next time you witness something similar, you will be able to try a different method then watching and thinking. (Which is a good thing)

 

When people are really old their hips usually break first and then they fall. My mom told me (she's a nurse) and also doctors have told me the same thing when I worked in a nursing home.

 

Dave next time you can buy the tomatoes and offer to help put his bags in his car and you can slip the tomatoes in with the other bags.

 

exactly....most times you have to watch and think before you realize that you can do something. its just hard to take a creative approach to something when you are in it. Reflection always is good.

They discarded me first.

I dont have many happy memories with my grandparents. Two dont talk to me, One cant understand me, One i occasionally chat on the phone with.

Otherwise, I rarely come into contact with older generations.

there are a few kinds of old folks homes

you want the ones where people stick their relatives to forget about them (as opposed to where they send them to die, or where they go because they want to escape their families)

 

i had an elderly woman behind me in line purchase my entire cart of groceries for me. i was gonna bounce a check for them, kai was hungry. they wouldn't take the check. she just covered it and waved it off. i cried.

 

That sounds harsh.
