So I've read through many many pages and threads on here. And i'm just curious as to something. I am starting dreads naturally, and have not brushed in a week. And out of curiosity, will I have at least one dread, within this month? And I have stopped using shampoo, unless I get dandruff really badly, which was only one time so far. I've no Aloe available, and nothing good like Dr.Bronners to shampoo with, so i've been using a lil baking soda concoction i've picked up on here. My hair is naturally pretty straight, it's down past my shoulders a good few inches as well, but instead of being straight lately, the hairs are clumping up and getting a little wavy. In the back I can feel tangles near the root, but again, just curious as to how soon. I know these things take time and patience but uhh, I really want a good estimate lol. Cuz dreads kick ass. :cheers2:
If you post some pics we can give you a more accurate estimation LOL Everyone is different though. I know, not much help here
Well, the thing is. I haven't got a camera. But it's thick hair. Just based on my progress from over a week, how long do you think it would take?
Haha, sounds like a fun wait. Fun watching them though. Thanks. Hmm, so uhh, Where would I go about getting Dr.Bronners in North Texas.
Yeah but I can't find any health stores at least where i've looked It's kinda not erm..open to things out here. Is there any homeade concotions I can make that will rid my hair of like, any grease? And help the locking process?
you can order Dr. B's online...or just go to any old store and find a residue free shampoo. I personally dont like the baking soda concoction because you have to wash it out really really well which gets harder to do the more nappy your hair gets...but if it works for you then go for it! If you order the Dr. B's I would reccomend the bar form over the liquid....you dont have to dilute it any...it's just easier. Im not sure if there are specific concoctions that target grease...all I know is that it's good to wash your hair with a residue free shampoo whenever your hair starts to itch or gets really greasy. Clean hair knots faster. Ive been going natural for 2 months.....I have some solid knots, and some weird loopy dready things but no solid dreads yet. It could take a year going naturally! If you have thick hair...your hair will probablly knot up faster than mine....I have really fine hair. Just have patience.....it'll knot up! Good Luck!
Hmm, I just made a little concotion. And It kinda fixed my problems. I found a place I can go to tomorrow for some sea salt ect. It's a health food store so it should have it. But I just used some non residue shampoo I found under my sink Diluted it And added a teaspoon of baking soda and rinsed it out really good How much does Dr.B usually costs
good Im glad you found something to fix your problem. I forgot to mention that sea salt does work great in drying out your hair. Use in moderation though! Around here Dr. B's is usually about 4 bucks for the bar.
i am from dallas....is there any whole food shops in the area, you might have to come all the way here for something like that.
Ah, I go there alot. But anyways, I found a Local Place called Sunshine. Bought some Dr.B's 18-1 , and some sea salt. I had to like, walk around some pretty old neighborhoods. Those are the best. Anyways, I just backcombed my friends dreads, in a forest. When is it ok he wash them? Oh and a little sea salt/baking soda concotion in a spray bottle really like made my hair soft, but it kept it's little seperations. Will finger teasing it help it Lock up just a wee bit faster? I find myself playing with my hair in class all the time, so j'w.
just leave it be a PROMISE! you might get hopeless there for awhile but trust me...they will knot up. i had a lot of trouble my first month, i had every problem you ever hear about....but they are locking up juse fine...let them take care of themselves.
Ah, I figured it would help. Cuz it made it more frizzy and notty. Like, kinda like back combing with your fingers I guess, (not like running your fingers through them, just using the fleshy part of your fingers where calluses grow.) It's gonna be while Cuz my hair's pretty damn straight.
