I don't know if you guys struggle as much as I do, but it seems like no matter how long I rinse, I have to jump back in the shower again, because there's still some sticky soap that didn't make it's way out of my dreads. I do my best to just put soap on my scalp, but it just seems so inevitable for it get caught up somewhere in the middle of the dread. I had to claw out waxy buildup out of one dread that was the size of a quarter one night...ugh....Maybe I should use hotter water when rinsing? Btw, I had been using Dr. B's 12 to 1 Tea Tree Oil...Just seems to always leave a waxy residue behind that is a pain to get out...I've since switched to DHHQ shampoo that had from a long time ago and haven't seemed to encounter such drastic consequences, so far...
well that happensd to some people could be your hair type that is extra oily or could be your water dr b's is a pire castle soap not a detergent soaps rince fine in (i may have this backwards) hard water but in soft water will be very hard to rince detergents on the other hand are easier to rince in soft water there was a sollution suggested (other then showering at a freinds) and that was to add a small amount of borax to the dr b i think that reacts with the oils to make it more of a detergent (om no chemist so cant tell ya hpoow) i think if i remembver right it was 2 tablespoons added to the bottle? im not sure i think its in a thread titled "for those havinmg probs with dr b" or something..it was a few posts in..maybe by spiralmomma? oit was by 1 of the momma names at least (i think) u could also do a diluted apple cidart vinagar rince that will remove any buildup also..i dont think temp matters as much as pressire if u yse a fine mist on an adjustable shower head ot wont penetrate amnd rince as well as the harder massage setting of you dont have that option, filling a bucket repeatedly and dumping over your head will do more then a fine myst anything you can do to increase the pressure and/or volume of water used to rince will help pressure is bettter then volime though from an ecological standpoint ..lesss water at a higher pressure penetrates better rincing more thouroughly deeper into the core otherwise it could take a number of gallons dumped over (at low pressure) to fully saturate and rince thouroughly throughout at least thats what makes eence to me in warm weather as an experiment you could try experimenting with both volime and pressure with an open firte hydrant stick your soapy head right up in there and u bet it gets thouropughly rinced in no toime i use a handhely adjustable showerhead and when i use typical shampoos (not dr b) i not only have to use the massage setting but i have to go down the length of each dread individualy with the shower head pressed tight to the dread 3-4 times to get it rinced well dr b though seems really easy to rince out notmaly oh if your hairs naturaly oil;y try adding thrme or thyme poil it will change the oil production over thyme (i mean time) so it wont produce as much
also if you have any wondering whether your water is hard or soft just taste it you'll be able to tell right away the water here is very minerally its delicious haha
ANY shampoo used for dreads should be diluted until it gets to the point where you feel it's cleaning *and* washing out easily. I usually just do this by adding water to my shampoo bottle as I use it. And definitely give it a good rinsing... just let your head get soaked under for a bit. This has nothing to do with the water temperature while rinsing. In fact, a final rinse with cooler water is best .
wring wring wring! This helps me rinse out my dreads. I just wring them with my hands then stick my head under the shower again...repeat, repeat repeat. A lot of people have trouble with Dr. Bs, others swear by it. I think it kind of depends on your hair type, scalp chemistry, ect. so you need to do what is best for you. Is there any wax or any other stuff in your hair that might be contributing to this residue? Maybe you should do a deep cleanse just to rule anything else out...
Thanks guys. ....No there's no wax that I used. I've since switch from 12 to 1 Dr. B's to DreadheadHQ bottle (I know, I hate the company too)...but, it works better for me. They are actually knotting up even better with it, too. It doesn't leave my scalp as oily either. I may try a deep cleanse soon, now that I've got this shampoo issue settled.
soft water takes a while to rinse, but it has no calcium to bind with the soap. So, it takes longer but rinses clean. Hard water makes weird waxy films with soaps. Solution? acids to dissolve the soap scum. diluted vinegar is fine, lemon/lime juice in water is fine. Play around and see what your scalp wants. That dreadhead soap is barely different from a clarifying V05.
