not a recurring dream but a recurring subject

I've been away for a year and left my best friend behind. I keep having dreams about him and they're never exactly the same dream but the general layout is generally the same.

I just had one which fits exactly into the pattern they normally follow.

I was walking down one of the main streets in the town I live in with a bunch of friends. I came to a street which (in the dream) he lived on and turned to my friends and said "sorry guys, i've gotta check this out and go see him".

I turned right down the road and made my way to his house. it was a narrower road and had more plants on it then I remembered. I made my way up to his house and saw him sitting outside with 4 other people who included his girlfriend. He stood up as he saw me walking up towards him, wearing a green tshirt and light blue jeans (things he'd never wear in real life) and walked over to me. I pulled him away from the group and hugged. I was kinda confused cos he didn't seem as enthusiastic as I know he's going to be when i actually get home. So I sat down with them and turned to the girlfriend. I asked her how things were, if they'd improved and she said no they hadn't. (I got an email from her before I slept saying that things weren't so good)

Then me and him were in the house, no one else was there and I noticed that two of their friends (who were together in the dream - I didn't know them) were using their room to make out in and he was really uncomfortable with this but wasn't able to stand up for himself... So I did it for him, asking them to leave...

Then him and his girlfriend came up to me and were all "She's going to draw the house, isn't that cool?" and I didn't know what to say cos I didn't want her around to draw the house and I was really confused. I made some kind of noise of encouragement and mentioned that I wished I had brought my camera so I could join in the whole art frenzy but they corrected me and changed what they had said. Instead, she was going to PAINT the house, as in the outside and inside and redo everything and it would take ages... and I was really unhappy with it.

It's normal for these dreams to feature him and not her. I've had easily 10 of them this year and only in one of them has she been there apart from this one and only in one other one have I even noticed that she wasn't there.

What does it mean and what should I do?

 

id guess is has to do with romantic feelings you feel towards your friend. not that you would want to start a relationship with him, but there are most likely feelings that will arise in a relationship as close as best friends have. you may feel jealous towards the girlfriend, whose painting the house signifies changing, specifically changing the relationship between you and your friend.

all normal stuff, no need to take it seriously or anything
