I use to be a gay basher

back in my youth before my enlightenment i use to always hate on gays. The words faggot and homo were a big part of my vocab. But i just wanted to let all the homosexual's on this site know how much i respect you. Its not easy being you, their is alot of bigotry and close mindedness by convenient "Christians" and other religious groups and organizations. You cant help the way you were born and instead of choosing to ignore who u are u walk the world confident in yourself and way of life and u should be! I hope this rock we live on comes to terms with the reality that it doesn't matter what color your skin is, what gender u are or what gender your attracted to. Its the person that you are that matters. Love transcends all boundaries. so when you guys think the whole word is out to get you and think u might never be able to get the rights u deserve as human beings know their are people out their pushing for you and preying for you. I dont think its that simple though.

Gay rights, me personally, I'd prefer we concentrate on those that need it the most, Under 21s and even then only that quarter of gay guys that have the lispiest voice, or the butchest girls, they are really the only ones most straights seem to have a problem with. Add to that growing up gay in a rural or religous belt setting , a whole lot more difficult than growing up in the big city with a few more gay people around.

So gay teens in rural settings, they have it the worst

My experience as a gay teen growing up in the suburbs of one of the gayest cities in the world (Sydney), and as a gay guy not so obviusly gay to the straights around me, was that I didnt really cop that much flack.

The way I saw it, whatever flack I did get is/was nothing compared to the crap I saw / see that straight females have to put up from straight males.

So as the 36 yr old well off soy latte sipping gay guy living in an urban setting, I feel a little guilty going on about gay rights as they apply to me, I'd rather people concentrate more on the rights and protection of gay teens and female equality.

From my perspective, and where I live, a white adult gay male gets it easier than just about all racial minorities, most women and even most straight males for that matter. Maybe not in terms of some legal rights, but definately in terms of interacting with my fellow humans

 

rural gay teens have it the worst, half my gay teen years were in rural Tennessee and it was soooo bad, got shanked only once thank goodness.

 

gorilla i enjoyed your post, insightful. I'm sorry if i implied the problem is a simple as my post, i just wanted to show a little love because Cali's proposition 8 thing really erked me. Even in this time of great change (fingers crossed) America still showed its bigotry. we all are apart of one community called humanity. All with the possibilities of divine love and blind hatred. we will as this community get past this blind hatred one day. The biggest problem i think is this hatred is rooted in a lot of these peoples religion. People who are otherwise good wholesome people hurt so many lives with this hatred. preachers teach kids at Sunday school that homosexuals were stoned to death because of there lifestyle and that they deserved it. I know i was one of those kids unfortunately. People justify their bigotry with a cross, a star etc. Their are a lot of brainwashed minds we have to open up. As long as we work together we will right these wrongs. They cant take away from us the hope brother. Not if we don't let them.
