I got Fucked at Best Buy!

So, I was having a LAN Party just this last weekend, about 10 of my friends all brought their computers over and we played games, shared files and so on. A good time was had by all. The party lasts from Friday night through Sunday afternoon. So, because my computer hard drives are all full of music, porn and other video files and such I did not have any room left on my computer and I wanted to take full advantage of this weekend by getting as much from everyones computers as I could.

I got home and my friend and I went over to Best Buy, I wanted to get a Terabyte drive, they are cheeper now and it was around $225.00 or so for a Western Digital Drive. I happen to like them. While some of my other friends were arriving and setting up their systems we drove the mile or so to my local Best Buy. I picked up a drive from the guy, it was in a locked case. Bought it and returned home. I opened the shrink wrap and found a very damaged drive. I did not look at it any further other than to noticed that it was almost burnt. I went back to Best Buy by myself and attempted to return the drive.

I got another Terabyte Drive and went up to the return area. The supervisor told the cashier to exchange it and then the cashier looked at the drive and tried to match the numbers with the numbers on the box. They did not match. As a matter of fact it was not a TB Drive but a 500G Drive. So, needless to say they would not take it back. They said that the contents do not match the box and that they would not take it back. Needless to say this is the point where I started to make a stink. I paid nearly $250.00 for a drive that I could not only not use but now I could not get what I paid for, I was out $250.00.

I was yelling so much about it I gained the attention of the General Manager. So after spending about a half an hour talking to him. I was not really talking if not yelling but needless to say I was way upset. He basicly accused me of buying the TB Drive and trying to return it with the 500G saying that there was no way that they would have a drive in the store that would not match what was in the box. I will say that the box appeared to be sealed in its shrink wrap and that I did notice that the package inside was not sealed but was taped shut. He said my only couse of action was to contact Western Digital. He said I could also call the Best Buy consumer relations department. After I came home my girlfriend heard my story and she also went back to the Best Buy and tried to apply her womanly whiles, assuming that I was to much of a hot head and that was how I did not resolve the problem at hand. She also had no result.

I called the consumer relations department and they offered me a $200.00 gift card. Now, you guys do the math. If I am to replace the drive at $250.00 and I paid $250.00 that will mean that I will have to pay $300.00 for the same drive with only a $200.00 gift card. I decided to continue the rest of this at another time fully expecting to have my credit card company go after Best Buy for the money. That was on Friday night. I decided to give Best Buy another try today and this time I asked for a supervisor. Now, I don't know if it was a supervisor or not but I spoke with this guy and he had a better understanding I would guess. He asked me to ship the unit out to him and that he would send me a $300.00 gift card to cover the cost of the shiping and the drive.

Now, as a result of this I am now going to ask the store to open up all of my purchaces from now on to confirm the contents of what is inside. As a matter of fact I am going to personally go and buy about $300.00 worth of smaller items like CDs and such and make the General Manager personally open them all up and confirm the contents of each package. I am going to do this on a daily basis until the gift card is used up. I am going to make his life a living Hell. I am only going to do this because of one thing. He personally said that he had the power to return this drive and give me a new one but that he choose not to. I asked him, just to confirm that he personally made this decision on his own, and he said it was all his decision. And like a dog with a bone I am going to make this guy pay for his mistake of pissing off the wrong guy. I may even return these items on a reguar basis as well. Just to be a dick. Not sure about that yet. I still pissed that I even have to continue to deal with this crap.

Long story short, there is nothing in the store policy to protect the consumer. Once you leave the store they have the right not to help you. Check your purchases before you leave the store. As a mater of fact have them confirm the contents with you.

 

Next time include the word OVER in the title. You misleading bastard..

but about the story, that sucks. why wouldn't you just get the new drive with the card though? you went through all of this to get it, why not just get the darn thing?

I kinda did that so that people would notice the title. Yes, I did get fucked over.

 

I just got promased the card, I have to send the bad drive to them first. When I get the card I may just buy the drive but I want to be a dick about it and make them deal with me. I may have to buy the drive before I get the card.

 

Dude wow what a shitty experience. i dont buy best buy cuz we dont have alot of them in canada but thats just insane... I wouldnt even have left the store until they gave me my money back lol And i do like your idea i think thats a hilarious payback.

Normally I would agree with you. I don't think I have been this pissed off in a long time. I found out that I have spoken with the a higher person then the district manager so my reactions and concerns are going to be expressed. I will get back more than what I paid for the drive but I have to go through a lot of steps to make this happen. I just don't like being accused of what is basicly stealing. I will be more cool when the time comes for me to step back in that store but I think I will always have a bad taste in my mouth. I used to like to just walk around a Best Buy and look at stuff. I would even find something to buy most of the time. I don't think I will still get that same pleasure ever again. I think that is worth some spite.

 

dude,best buy is notorious for their fuck ups. I worked with best buy through their appliance installation department and not a day went by where there wasnt a problem. Delivery and installation took two weeks to a month and thats IF the order was in from a mess of a warehouse in dallas. that is why i dont buy at best buy.

this one time i was buying 2 pre-owned ps1 games at GAME. i got home all excited, one cd was missing. i went back to the store, they checked the computer and the ammount of cd's in stock at the back. got it fixed.

but yeah, it did piss me off. and you too should be pissed off. sucks about it.

 

A buddy of mine bought a bunch of gift cards for christmas from best buy. when his family tried to use them they discovered that the cards had no money left on them and they were already used for purchases that he did not make.
