so today i had to get some x-rays done and the radiologist is talking to me and she says "i love yoyr dreads..cause theyre real..i used to be a hairdresser and never could make dreads as nice as real dreads" i laughed and saud "yea ysualy they just make a total mess of things, very few do anything close to a good job" and she laughs and says "yup they sure do, i really have no idea why anyone would pay a hairdresser for crappy dreads when real dreads always look so much nicer"

i really got a kick outta that comming straight from a hairdresser who used to do dreads

Love her honesty! And love your dreads too!! I was on the bus going to the Dr's myself today. Some little highschoolers were like "ewww look at her hair it's disgusting" So I said to her "Ewww look at your braces they're disgusting" I really hate that but I do love it when compliments arise out of the most random of people

didnt think yo ask it was enough to hear her admit to making crappy dreads..lol
but not only that to admit that most hairdressers do and that natural dreads look better

Hairdressers and "loctitians" (people who can charge you $$$ just to put it in simple braids that you could LITERALLY do yourself but won't of fear of having "perfect parts") do a crap job because they sit there and put a whole jar of gel/wax in your head and then tell you NOT to wash until you come back to them. Which could be at least 2 weeks-a month or more... I mean, come on, if you considering dreading but are worried about how you'll look/what people say, probably you shouldn't bother or just don't give it a second thought and keep wasting your cash.

I freed myself from that crap years ago and my dredsprouts are a huge step. They make money off of people feeling ugly and bad about themselves.

and they're so expensive :S here in the netherlands though there are a lot of people who charge a small amount of money or something else for very nicely backcombed dreadlocks, which are of much better quality than the ones salons make.
