Just curious if anyone is going to be there. I will. It's "only" the second show of the run that I've been to... the first was on Sunday night. I really enjoyed it, and I think tonight should be even better I love Nokia Theater. It's the perfect size... great sound, and elegant lobby, convenient location... doesn't get any better! I'm going by myself, so if anyone wants to meet up beforehand and hang out for a bit that would be fun (and no, I am not implying that I have L for sale, or that I'm looking for some ). Even if you don't want to meet up, I won't be offended - please reply to the thread because I'm curious whether any forum people will be there.
holy shit dude! I'm so happy you will be at such an amazing event at the same time as I will be I will be thinking of you. I'm pretty jealous that you're seeing Yes, because I've never seen them or any comparable progressive rock band in concert, but I can't be too jealous. Last year at the end of the NYC run, Phil played for four hours
I dont have tickets but I still may try to go if i get out of work early enough, I'm sure I'll be able to grab a ticket when i get there. Drop me a PM if you want to meet up, and no I'm not looking for any L... -d
Oh man, last night was an experience for me... By far the most intense show I've ever been to, in large part because I was there by myself and therefore had no one to key off besides random people I met and the music itself. I met some really cool older guys (a couple were from Philly actually), and we stood on about the third row of people from the stage for the first set, and wow, it took me to another planet. I seriously couldn't tell if I had been dosed. It was a total out of body, out of mind experience even though I'd only had a couple of beers... I couldn't believe it. The music just took me so far, because it wasn't at all what I was expecting (it was very loud and intense, for the most part, in the first set). I was dancing, and I couldn't tell if I was getting everyone else really into it or if I was bothering people haha. It was crazy. I left during the set break with plans to return, but the second set started before I could get back and so I decided to wander around. I had all sorts of encounters with various people, male and female, young and old, sober and far from it... the amount of pure experience that was crammed into those few hours is going to take me a while to process. It was a night where nothing earth-shattering, aside from the music, really happened, but I felt so free being there by myself that it turned into a really intense experience as I interacted with all kinds of people with all kinds of different vibes. Wow. I will never forget it, and I think I just became a lot more of a "Deadhead" Let me know how your show went, I hope you had an awesome time
Well, let's just say that I was probably one out of maybe 10 other people who was jumping up and going into the light every time Steve broke out the slide guitar  People get so uptight and self conscious when it comes to those concerts, I just feel like grabbing them and saying "Come on, I KNOW you want to dance" haha It was, as always, beyond words.
No doubt, but then again Id rather see Yes than God so... But yea I saw Phil once a few years ago, maybe 5 years I guess? Very fun, joints passed around like they were falling from the sky
Yeah, I feel like the Yes audience would be a lot less free than the Phil Lesh audience. I'm not experienced enough with shows to be able to judge the vibe of a crowd accurately, but I did see quite a few people passing out, issues with the security, and people shoving their way to the front. Of course every show has its share of that, but people on the Phil forums gave the show mixed reviews, musically and vibe-wise. I thought the music was great. The vibe was definitely not as positive as it could have been, but I think I benefit a lot from the more negative aspects of it. I am going to make a post about my experiences last night, so look for it Edit - as for a Phil show vs. a Yes show in general, that's tough. I've already seen Phil several times so I suppose I'd rather see Yes for that reason, but I feel like the atmosphere of a Phil show has to be far superior. The best Yes stuff in the studio is way better than the Dead's best studio stuff, but it's hard for me to imagine any live show, except maybe The Who in their prime or one of the best nights of Hendrix or Led Zeppelin, being better than a (semi)Dead show. Of course, I wasn't into the Dead until long after Jerry died, so I can't really even talk about Dead shows.
Phil just dont do it for me. Mickey Heart and Planet Drum yeah, though Mickeys shows tend to be intimate and your sort get stuck in a set. but it really goes through you.. I felt amazing amounts of energy after Mickey Heart.. The rhythm is in us..
