Apparently less than 100 breeding pairs exist in BC, and I just saw one!

It was very strange because it was just sitting/standing in a puddle on the side of the road right by a local First Nation reserve. I turned around to get a better look and it was brilliant! Big dark black eyes, and lovely markings. I pulled up right beside it and it just looked at me; didn't even fly away.

I came home to look up all owls in BC and it's definitely the Spotted Owl, without a doubt!

Usually I only see them high in trees and only once in a while, never on the side of the road just sitting in a puddle. It was gone the third time around so I assume it wasn't injured and just flew away.

    Anyone know anything about owls?

yeah the stunned look and it sitting in a puddle would most likely mean it had been hit by a car.....

owls are not ducks they do not sit in water.

Generally, yes. Although it was sitting, its head could still turn with its wide eyes. It was gone when I turned around so it must have flown off.
