Fall rush is going on right now, and there's a fraternity here that I will probably receive a bid from. At this point, I don't know if I want to join. I like the friends I have, and would rather live with them next year. I mean I'm not even half way into my freshman year of college, I don't want to abandon what friends for others.

The problem is the way frats do things to almost guilt you into joining. I just went to casino night, and more people than expected remembered my name. I feel guilty going to their events, getting to know them, making them think I'm going to pledge, then abandoning it all as if it were for just free stuff ( I did win a sick nerf gun, a no parking sign, and Might Ducks D2). I mean, I don't wanna make them think I'm an ass who bailed.

Not to mention that out of a bunch of rush'es there tonight, in a system where points were basically meaningless, my name got called 3rd. Plus I have a pretty good friend on the track team who's basically working to recruit me.

Its like pressure from all sides. I wasn't even going to go to casino night. I walked halfway there, decided frats weren't for me, turned around, and walked back to my dorm. Upon getting to my floor, I got a call from my friend in the frat reminding me that it was casino night. I just said I'd be there in a little bit and walked back down to the frat.

If I don't get a bid, which is fairly unlikely at this point, I don't know if i'll be able to turn it down. f***

i'd say don't do it man...being a fake ass little frat boy rubbin elbows with a bunch of rich people's kids doesn't sound like much fun to me. go to the parties, and that's it.

yea fuck that. you know why they remember your name? one cause they want your money. two because they have meetings about you. half of them prob made fun of you at some point. maybe not but they make fun of allot of guys who go through rush. fraternitys are mindwash. USE THE FUCK OUT OF THEM. i was in a fraternity. take it from me. yea some of the guys may acctually be cool. but they are the ones who dont go to chapter and dont bend over backwards to fit in. there arnt allot of them. if you like being fake and having tons of fake people around you sucking each others cocks then you should go for it. rush is a facade. its a buch of flash designed to bedazzel you into making a dubious decision.

Fraternities require a big commitment of time. If you aren't completely sure it's for you, don't do it.

Look. I had a lot of doubts about joining a sorority. I was worried just like you were.. that I would have to pick between my friends.

And I did have to pick. I hardly got to see the good friends I had made because my sorority sucked up my life.

THEN.. I had to quit school for medical reasons. And were my sorority sisters there for me when I was leaving? Haha. No fucking way.

I wasn't going to be there anymore so who gives a shit.

When I'm in the hospital it's not my "sisters" who call.. It's my friends!

i was in a Womens Studies class where the theme was frat. bashing. i had to read some 15 papers on how frats promote gang rape, drug abuse, and the objectification of women.

i ate it up. because thats how fraternities really operate. but you can still go to their parties, which kick ass sometimes, even if you don't join.

    so, thats me 2 cents.

Anyone who is in a frat deserves to die.

    Well, that's creepy.

Yeah, there's a lot of scum in those places, but to say they all deserve to die is a little much, ya think?

Frats = Several hundred dollar passes for booze, drugs, and pussy.

No frat = booze, drugs, pussy, and 600 dollars to spend on it all.

Frats are also collections of soulless plastic models of people who think money is everything. Don't make the mistake of joining one.
