On Dec. 10, the US Army Will Have Its First Execution Since 1961. Man the Army has it in for Blacks

The United States Army is set to have its first execution in a nearly fifty years. The last execution was carried out back in 1961.

December 10, 2008 will be a historical date for the United States Army. It will have its first execution since 1961. According to the United States Army, soldier Ronald A. Gray of North Carolina will be executed.

The place of the execution will be at the federal prison complex in Terre Haute, Indiana. For the time being, Gray is being held in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas

The last guy to be executed By the Army was also Black. He was Private John Bennett.
What is also disturbing is that of all the men on Military Death Row which is six, four of them are Black.

If your country didn't already have death penalty laws for civilians in those types of crimes I would think it wrong. However, how many civilians in the US get the death sentence for those crimes? This basically is the same verdict he would have gotten for the same crimes in a civilian court. Plus he plead guilty. When I first read your post I thought it might have to do with the current military actions your country is involved in, perhaps for something like desertion that used to be (maybe it still is) punishable by death, untill I read the links. This is the same as a civilian crime and as such may be punishable as such.

    My thoughts, too, Dave.

If the point is that this man is black, i'm not sure what you're saying.

i mean, i'm sorry that those folks decided to do stuff that would get them a death sentence, but regardless of race, they did the crimes and deserve the punishment.

That surprises me. A lot of times if you plea out they spare you the death penalty. I didn't read the articles, but a death sentence even after a guilty plea -- must have been something unusual.

OK. Now it makes sense. And doing it in North Carolina didn't help.

Gray was convicted of raping and killing a female Army private and a civilian near his post at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was also convicted of the rape and attempted murder of another fellow soldier in her barracks at Fort Bragg.

It looked to me like, in each of the cases, they had concrete evidence, PLUS eye-witnesses ~ and, in some cases, confessions.

    In other words,

    they were caught,

    red-handed...

(ugh! What a gross pun! )
