So Folks! DONT WORRY! Im not starting again Mine are finally locking up nicely Just wondered if people had any regrets regarding the process they used or methods/products they used during the dready journey? Mine would be to definately NOT let a loctician or wax near my hair, and the most importantly, not to keep combing them for nearly 5 months! I definately think I would do mine naturally next time! My used to clump together on its own all the time. Whats yours? Peace of the Grove /|\ Alex
i have cut before they were under 4 months natural. this was about 5 years ago and i always wanted to get em back. im gonna backcomb them in december. my hair will be about 4inches.
Ahh thats lame dajaga Good luck with them Totally agree Buttrfly)i) as soon as I stopped, the hair started healing, and within weeks they had made more progress than in months! Another regret of mine was not washing for 13 weeks or so! As soon as I washed using deep clense they locked up so much! Peace of the Grove /|\ Alex
The first time around, I waxed/back combed... Now I just have 10 dreadies throughout my hair, and they're natural--backcombed the base to get them started (it's definitely hard trying to keep them from eating the rest of my hair) but I love that they're doin their own thing now... seems a little healthier on the hair too.
Never use Latex. Otherwise all of my dreads would have been 3 years in Jan but only 4 will be 3 in Jan coz I just couldn't take them out. It makes me feel sick.
I would not separate mine so much. I wanted thin dreads, but I went a little overboard with the separation! Being so thin the ends have doubled up on themselves and I now have some fat ends on thin roots. I've been trying a few of the really thin ones together lately, hopefully they will be ok.
i woukd start mine the natural way i think, if only i discovered this forum first, but on a plus side, mine are stil fookin awesome! lol
MIne bugs me now till this day. I Kinda regret backcombing because from being on this site I got like deeper in the natural dreadlock thing an i feel like they should be natural but that doesnt bug me that much. What also bothers me is i damaged a couple of my dreads really bad from backcombing alot of the hairs are dead and you can see the parts in the hair thats dead on the dread they kinda rip out easy that bothers me alot. But see all this wouldnt be like this if i just went all natural.
If I could do it all over again...I wouldnt have cut my first set off! I had my first set for about 2 years! They were midway down my back and oh so gorgeous! I cut them to get a job in Yosemite.....lame.
I used wax the first time. I would never do that again. As far as what I would do differently this time? Nothing. This is all part of the process. Would I do anything differently next time? Probably not. Hard to tell.
I learned alot of hard lessons with my first set: wax is evil, wrapping, crocheting, palm rolling, etc are a waste of my time, shampoo bars are super awesome and herbs, essential oils, aloe & apple cider vinegar can be your dreads best allies. I started this set with a quick round of sectioning and backcombing, and then I left them alone, other than ripping them apart once in awhile. If for some crazy reason I had to start over again, I would do everything the same. I love my dreads. They're strong, healthy, clean, and happy.
Also an addition of mine, is to never let someone plat the roots on some of mine Starting to piss me off as they have grown! Peace of the Grove /|\ Alex
Id backcomb versus going naturral I was originally going to, but just decided one day to go natty not that I regret it, just so I could have some controol over my hair but I love my dreadies
You familiar with platting normal hair? Its pretty much twisting 3-4 sections of hair around each other in a pattern. The loctician did it to mine, about an inch at the roots of quite a few and then combed it to keep it in *MAD* Peace of the Grove /|\ Alex
I wish I would have actually done a better job at backcombing in the beginning (an unpopular opinion, I think). I would have rolled them a bit more, too. I'm happy with my dreads, but if I could go back in time and start them differently, that's what I'd do. I'd also keep the huge congo on the side of my head from forming! It's interesting and not horrible, but I think it definitely could have been better as two.
I'd probably have done a better job of separating my hair earlier this year so i could have at least have had some sprouting. I was trying to go super natural and not interfere with it at all besides washing. I braided my loose fro into 20 big ones because it was just gettin to me. Couple of small in the back nothing much else. Then I realized I wanted to go natural but maintain some sort of upkeep. So I took the braids out and now I separate my hairs everyday. Now they're starting to come together and mesh but i feel like i dropped the baton and im catchin up now.
