Hey everyone. I've had lucid dreams before -mostly when I was younger- but I was never able to control anything (except sometimes I could fly and I was trying to escape from something) and I usually would wake up right away unless I was running for my life. Last night I had a dream... I'm not sure if it was lucid, though. At one point I was aware that I was in a dream and I could control things, like I made the glass in a window disappear and jumped out of it. I was afraid that I would wake up when I landed, but I didn't. The control I had was strange. Some things I could control and some I couldn't. And sometimes I would try to control something and would have to concentrate or "try" a few times before it worked. Then, after awhile in the dream I was told by my family that I was actually sleepwalking or something at the time and "woke up" when I was actually still asleep and kept dreaming for awhile. So do you guys thing I had a dream that I was having a lucid dream? Or did I have a lucid dream but slip out of lucidity?

Also, there was a really weird/funny part to the dream where I was listening to a song by Tara Reid who is apparently an actor, not a singer. It was kinda cool and even remembered some of it when I woke up, so I guess I'm writing songs while I sleep now :).

If you couldn't control the dream, why are you referring to it as lucid?

If that is the criteria, I've had lots more lucid dreams than I currently feel I've had. (I know of one definite, and maybe one or two others, that truly were lucid.)

But if the one you are talking about involved realizing it was a dream, and you could control things, why are you questioning whether that one was lucid? Sounds like a definite yes.

I guess it's not unreasonable to think that even a lucid dream can have complications (like the "having to concentrate" thing); it's not always full control that you get. And the part about waking up within the dream; I've done that, myself. I just chalk it up as "wow, that was a bit weird!"

And as for dreaming that Tara Reid was a singer, well, it's quite normal for strange and unrealistic things to happen in dreams and they still seem perfectly reasonable and normal within the dream's context. I've had that happen far too often to keep track of.

Lucid dreams aren't only dreams that you can control, it means you are aware that you are dreaming.

A lucid dream is a dream in which the person is aware that they are dreaming while the dream is in progress, also known as a conscious dream. When the dreamer is lucid, they can actively participate in and often manipulate the imaginary experiences in the dream environment.

    That's from Wikipedia

I've always been able to control myself, but not other things when I was having a lucid dream.

Anyway, what you said is interesting interesting. I actually have "woken up" in dreams before too, but it was never in a lucid dream so I wasn't really sure about that. And the Tara Reid thing I just thought was funny so I thought I'd include that haha. Thanks for your response.

Oh, hey, I did a little bit more research and I found this:

A false awakening may occur either following an ordinary dream or following a lucid dream (one in which the dreamer has been aware of dreaming). Particularly if the false awakening follows a lucid dream, the false awakening may turn into a ‘pre-lucid dream' [1], that is, one in which the dreamer may start to wonder if they are really awake and may or may not come to the correct conclusion.

So I guess that was very common.
