Hello family! I'm in California, lived here my whole life (how come no gatherings in the west!?). I've (with a group) been getting into throwing outdoor gatherings/parties. Not exactly in the same line as Rainbow Gatherings but the intentions are very much positive and plur. I'm stuck on the permit or no permit deal. It's a free party, and the goal has been keeping the budget real low so nobody's taking too much of a loss, and the party keeps coming back. I just found out this morning that I can get a free permit under some kind of first amendment permit. But I'm just wondering if it's better to keep it underground, because if I let them know that I'm throwing an event, they will probably want to stick their noses in it. So far we've had no problems, the spot we've used the past few times is at the end of a 20 mile rd, super far from any residential rubbish, which makes for no noise complaints, and no problems with authority shutting us down. However, I'm starting to get bad inklings, like I am going to get screwed over hard if something goes wrong; Especially since the natural progression is going towards getting bigger each time. I am wanting to talk with anybody who is real knowledgeable in this field, either on this thread or pm, and I can give you a lot more details, because there is actually a lot more to this situation then I can lay out in a single post. Please respond with anything, even gibberish, just don't let this thread die because this thing is something that NEEDS to happen here, Southern California is losing it's soul, or rather it just lye dormant, but it is ready to be re-awoken. I am very much looking to talk to a person that can share with me wisdom about how to do this real proper. Thank you all for reading, and I wish the Family all the best of hope for future gatherings to grow better and better, evolving, I think it's really beautiful.
No Gatherings in the west? just in the last decade; Arizona 1998, Idaho 2001, Utah 2003, & California 2004 ( by some Rainbow definitions Montana 2000, Colorado 2006, Wyoming 2008 & next year's New Mexico Gatherings are considered West) On the party thing, many things would depend on what would be happening at the parties. If it's a completely clean, spiritual-type event you might try the permit but remember that signing makes you responsible for everyone. Cali also used to have some strange laws about dances & the like, so it would be wise to check on those if there will be music or dancing.
yaaaaa, worst thing about California by far is the Law Enforcement. I don't even want to get into that. but yea it's gonna be a lot of young people, very few under 18, usually none over 30. Bad for image right, and even less respect from the law. various forms of debauchery will always show up, but those people know how to keep their cool... The crowd is not an irresponsible crowd, and no sketchy-ness as far as weapons or violence, nothing illegal besides what might be in their bloodstream. Also, boom boom boom boom electronic music (god forbid!), psychedelic artwork and visual decorations, lots of colorful lights all night. Basically, yeah it is very much a target. Only redeeming factors are it is very much leave no trace, even if it just ends up being solely the organizers at the end, because thats what you got to do. It has been averaged at only 100 people attending in the past, which helps, and I am really well traversed about all these National Park areas for many miles around me so I know which places are reasonable, where the rangers are at, which places can be dodgy after the sun goes down etc... Also, NO BONFIRES! Ok, to maybe clear things up a little bit, and possibly make more confusing... here is my thing. The argument for my side... There are no specific rules about how many people can camp at a place. If there are a lot of tents, each person is camping separately, I showed up with my sound system, this individual had his lights handy, these individuals are artists, this person found this suitcase sitting by the creek, he don't know what's in it! There are no tickets or fees, no vendors, no flyers, we are all very tight knit groups of friends, tribes if you will. If we were a bunch of middle aged square looking folks they would let us do our thing, but because of who we naturally are, being the boundary pushing youth of tomorrow and all that jazz, we frighten them. Being who we are, we scare them, and that's partially how I know that I am on the right path. But for the opposing side, they see more than 10-20 cars and they are going to want to check it out. They check it out, they don't like it. That's basically the whole deal right there... Still I think I will settle on NO PERMIT for this next gathering, at least for the moment, I have high hopes. By the way when I say gathering I don't mean Rainbow, and this is going to be no way connected to Rainbow, but thank you for letting me house my thread in this forum because I really respect what has been created, how it has lasted, how it has grown, and plus the folks in this area have a lot of knowledge about the stuff I'm starting to pursue. Again it's an open invitation to say ANYTHING on this thread, you can flame me, just keep it alive. I guess I should sum up my requests though. I'll check out laws against dance/music/fuckthekids laws for californica in a moment... How long until I can expect heat to show for a group of 50-100 individuals? hours? days? I'll keep it going for as long as possible if things go right. I know someday I'll get it right. If someone experiences health problems? If this was a rainbow gathering (no permit) what would be the case, Ranger shows up? Cops show up? Fire dept. shows up? Hope for the future!
Diarrhea is a common, debilitatating ailment that can be caused by almost anything. Treatment in many cases is fluids-only for 24 hours. If that does not work and no antidiarrhea medication is available, grind chalk, charcoal, or dried bones into a powder. Mix one handful with treated water and administer every 2 hours until diarrhea slowed or stopped. Adding an equal portion of apple pomace or rinds of citrus fruit to this mixture makes the mixture more effective. Tannic acid, which is found in tea, can also help control diarrhea. Prepare a strong solution of tea, if available, and administer 1 cup every 2 hours until diarrhea slows or stops. The inner bark of hardwood trees also contains tannic acid. The resultant black brew has a vile taste and smell, but it will stop most cases of diarrhea.
As an organizer, you could be held responsible for any injuries, illnesses or property damage with or without paperwork. In a National Forest, the forest rangers have juristiction, tho they can request assistance from area leos if they want & they will show up as soon as they notice unusual activity. What they do from there depends on the rangers....treat them with respect & they might look the other way if they know that it's a short event. Quite honestly, holding your event on private property would be a much safer option.
There are private ranches that I know have held past events, up to 3000 people actually. After turkey day weekend, I'll give them a call, talk reaally straight with them about the whole deal, and see if they will rent it out to me for cheap. Yeah, I'm going to have problems with the law sooner or later in public areas. I guess it's just a matter of how to handle it properly. These spots are just amazing though, I'll put up some pictures later today in here, but I actually still have a bit of stuff to do before evening rolls around. Thanks for the diarrhea advice as well man, thats what I'm talking about, knowledge from experience. And thanks to all of you for helping guide me through this phase.
lol isn't the diarrhea thing random gibberish? maybe you can google utah rave on private property 'cause I know that kind of thing was happening here and the property owners got cited for underage people drinking and they did a major bust otherwise to break up the party. Hopefully cali's a better place and the owners of the land you speak of should know about that kind of thing, the 'liability issue' that's there for the rainbow permit issue, liability, since nf permit as now written says "holder shall be liable" and attempts to sign while excluding that clause have been denied. Other thought bumbled around is getting as many people to apply for a permit as possible, flood the system, everyone writing how many they think will be there, and what is the purpose, because there are as many guesses to those two questions as you have people attending. That idea just seems like it would waste more paper than it would save rights IMO. the real question is how to save rights, so civil disobedience it may have to be, no permit, all commitment (so if you get arrested follow through with trial, if you get kicked out in any way still come back to clean up, etc.)
yeah there are videos on youtube of that utah rave bust.. as far as the private property thing,we have had at least one rather large gathering here,(we guessed 80 or so men women and children) and that encouraged us to look into it. MOST if not all states require a permit even on private land for gatherings over a certain size. in georgia its 75 people. while it is less likely to be enforced on private land just be aware that california probably has the same law and with all laws they can choose to enforce it if they wish.(if im not mistaken thats how they justified the utah bust)
I saw online that the law was 200 over here. LEO can't come on the private property, unless there is probable cause i.e. loud music, visible drugs, which means if the po shows up you gotta shut down the electricity, hold off on the chieffing (well, most likely no), and stay on the private property, or else somebody gets in some nasty trouble. I'm not going to get into it on here, but a popular socal ranch had a mishap last year due to stupid parking rubbish, which led to the cops being able to show up, which led to the ranch being shut down. The place is very ideal though, I have the owner's number, and so I plan to call them up, see if he is up for a smaller gathering, maybe even as small as 50, because groups have used it for camping and legit festivals as well; still don't know if it's shut down to all events or just raves. I've still got hope, and if none of the private ranches work out, there is always the sweet sweet desert. I don't know if mr. bullshit is bullshitting me or not, sounded legit but I have yet to check it out. either way it brought up the topic in my mind, diarrhea is bad, gotta plan for that sort of stuff. Lots of little stuff to think about, this involves a lot of planning, plus I got at least 4 events lined up in the next 2 months. really busy working on another project right now though, gonna go cook some eats and get back n tend to my business, see you guys later! -love-
