The "rich" would be wise to recognize their dependence on civilization for everything they have, to realize their "wealth" for nothing more or less than what it actually is, a symbolic resource. In reality, money has no intrinsic worth beyond its value as an exchange medium. Those to whom the rich give money in exchange for their knowledge, skills, goods and services are the ones who "own" the actual resources. If the rich go elsewhere, all they take with them is their symbolic access to these actual resources. Those who believe in money as a measure of human worth do so at the expense of their own humanity. Those who believe money is sacred, they suffer with or without it. I would have considerably more respect and gratitude for all who create and value my "worth." The ultimate reality is that there are no such people as "The Rich" or "The Poor." These are, essentially, false identities. These are based on the delusion that some quality of human nature, unequally apportioned but inherently human, may be measured and identified by the resources one controls. I suggest you never mistake any collection of resources for a human being. Now, the question is taxes. No-one wants to pay taxes. But those who benefit most from their relationship to civilization have the greatest, most immediate interest in maintaining this civilization. Not to do so is to be disrespectful, ungrateful and, ultimately, destructive of your own well-being. Those with the resources would be wise to strengthen the bonds of community. They should recognize the "profit" of this. They should realize the real wealth of our civilization is the knowledge and wisdom, the health, well-being and creative involvement of every individual. One who could identify with this would know real wealth. Peace and Love
Well, everyone seems to think that this will never happen, so... Should the top 10% of the earners pay 80% of the taxes? 90%? Hey! They're so rich, they could, and should, pay all of it, right? And, after all, they OWE us for our worth, right? i mean, we MADE them, right? No way they could just kick us to the curb, no sir-ee! Yet if you look at what's been happening all around us ~ the corporate raiders, that force a company into a sale, just so they can grab up the pension funds; the corporate raiders that don't need to look further than their own company, that have stolen everything of value from it ~ you'll start to notice that these folks are a little bit greedy, and don't really give a care about HOW they ruin other people. Did y'all know that the Big 3 are crying their collective eyeballs out, whining about how the Unions are bankrupting them? What if they're able to rid themselves of the Unions? (fyi ~ there are a lot of 'Right to Work' states, where the boss can fire you for looking at him wrong, and you have no recourse. Texas is one of those states.) As soon as the Unions can be swept aside, the companies can pay a lot less for a lot more, which means we now have MORE lower income folks... Well, we'll see what happens.
