But why should anyone be required to do that, should we have to carry our papers with us at all times. Live with the threat of arrest if you don't carry your passport or have the badge on your clothes that Identifys you to the authority's?

We had that in Europe, that's how it began and when you want to invoke the memory of it it's exactly that sort of thing you say, get out you passport!, and every body goes ahhh! yes how could we forget.

as for the women in the vid seizedbyanger we all understand she's just folowing orders.

no that wouldnt suffice.. in another video he stated he was a american and as yank said they said they didnt ask that, they wanted him to say he was a "american citizen".

im sorry, its obvious the guy was of anglo saxon origin with no hint of a foreign accent. it seems to me that forcing someone to say what they deem necessary to proceed is a bit gestapo like..

but see i disagree, the path of least resistance is a path to oppression. history has proven this time and time again..he is choosing to lead by example at the possible cost of becoming a martyr..

that is something i personally am hesitant to do but i commend him for taking the lead. we need a few million more like him in this country before its to late IMO..

I think the key would be the group think that builds up behind that would likely be impatient and see the motorist and not the checkpoint as being the problem. My point is that there MUST be a better way of protesting it but doing nothing isn't an answer either in the big picture. The problem is that too many folks conduct their lives as though there is no big picture and they greatly outnumber those that are actively fighting to protect their rights.

I'd hope he did it at a time of day with reduced traffic, which,, I'd almost imagine he'd have to.

I'm white and american, and I felt concern about the traffic.

    that generalization is distasteful.

it wouldn't have effected me though.

    I don't drive right now.

and I don't live in that state, and it in no way relates to me.

I felt concern for other people because that's a basic, decent thing to do.

you seem to be enjoying a bit of a racist tilt, which is mildly disturbing.

The guy in the video was an idiotic dick. I don't see how he was standing up for his "constitutional rights" by asking, "Am I being detained? Am I being detained?" over and over and over again. She SAID NO THE FIRST TIME, MORON!!!

I've been stopped at these checkpoints...all you have to do is tell them you're a US citizen, THAT'S IT. And it says this checkpoint is useless because it's 50 miles inland..BULL. Do you know how many illegals get smuggled in the backs of trucks? They can ride 50 miles inland. This guy needs to get over himself.

When I was driving truck I took my daughter with me on the road during the summer and at every scale I was told to park my truck and bring in all my paperwork. I was questioned about my kid (I had a notarized statement for her to be with me as per company policy) (I had a company rider insurance policy as required by company) She had her ID and our last names matched and we do not have a common last name at all. At every scale house I was detained and they ran a 9 year background check on me, this happend 3 times and after that I made her hide in the sleeper to avoid more costly delays that lasted 45+ minutes each. There was no excuse for this, my last ticket had been when I was 17 years old, no other issues other than as a 15 year old kid and that involved federal issues and a computer.

There are several road checks nation wide that go on even on the interstates for assorted reasons. Some they claim to be simple training for officers.

So here it is, your time that has value, is stolen from you by people with assorted weapons and given power under a very vague law to do this. They attempt to trick people into letting them rip through your cars and if you refuse or even question this you are considered trying to hide something. They do felony stops for routine traffic stops for speeding or a light out and claim its for there safety and yours.

They call themselves the a brotherhood, they are allowed to get together to form a report prior to a written one and even consult a legal advisor first yet if it were you and a freind you would be seperated and locked into a room deprived of basic needs for untold amounts of time.

she was acting contrary to him not being detained it was "okay, so if I am not being detained, why are you behaving this way?" detained has MUCH stronger meaning to a police officer than it does to most general people, because there are very specific rules, and it's something really meaningful.

it's an irritating question for you, but, she was detaining him, and saying he was not being detained, or she was at least acting in a manner concistent with his temporary detention.

she had a gun, there was a road block (stop signs with armed men) she asked a question and so did he, she was also asked if he could go and she replied her same question over and over, perhaps she should have gotten over herself.

You assume as they do that we are all criminals if you allow the use to stop anyone for any reason. If they were looking for people why use drug dogs? At the border they check with mutiple items for illegals, if that fails then its there fault not john q public.

Do you honestly think that if a person desired to smuggle people across the border that a known check point that had been operating that day would not have been reported to a driver? Most are caught via routine traffic stops for speeding and such.

Hell a simple CB used to give me an easy 100 miles notice of what was ahead, scales open, rest area checks, wrecks, troopers and such, just how effective is this setup??

The first time he asked it she says, "No, you're not being detained. I just need you to answer the question." He could have just answered her question...what's the big fuckin deal?? This guy was looking for trouble--why else would he have brought along a video camera?

because what the officers are doing is illegal.

and with documentation (tape) he can actually prove it

that is how the justice system works.

it doesn't work well, but when you make a REAL effort, sometimes you can get the guys who are doing bad things.

he was doing something he is entitled to do. these officers are supposed to be defending the rights the aclu, buncha pony tailed hippies have to fight for, because of this draconian, authoritarian psychosis that is apparently much more widespread than it should be.
