I'm cutting my dreads at christmas!!! Not cutting them all off, just the ends that were crotcheted and thus are twice as big as the natural ones formed since i had them done, can't wait. I'm thinking of dying them too, my hair is naturally auburn. I've never dyed my hair fully before, just streaks. I'm thinking i'll just dye a few and leave a few natural so it's not too much in your face. My hair is very stubborn though and sometimes seems to just not 'take' the colour and only ends up slightly tinted rather than the bold colour it should be Any advice on the best hair dyes to use. and do you think my hair will take the colour better now it's dreaded? Also just a note, i've stayed away from the wax since your advice and same goes for my boyfriend and they feel so much better and cleaner! It upsets me a little bit that if i ever type in anything about dreads for advice at the top are the dreadheadhq sites etc promoting wax.
Wow In in Manchester too. Can't really offer any advice until you show what your hair looks like because I don't want to give bad advice if you get me. Yeah, I realised too late that wax is bad. But I've gotten it all out now. My first set was done near Afflecks palace, dumb troll advised me to cake my hair in latex.
Normally I'd suggest bleaching first if you're trying to go for a bright color, but with dreads I'd worry that some of the bleach might remain inside a dread after rinsing and cause all sorts of havoc and broken/fragile hairs.
Not much point me posting a pic just yet, prbably will be easier to see wonce i've cut the dreads. bcmama thanks i'll give it a read. I am quite dubious about the bleaching part and i'm a complete novice. Pypes ????? a little confused.
birmingham is awesome. i was sick at manchester the other day, happy times. as for dying,, i wouldnt know what to use, just make sure you rinse, rinse and rinse again to make sure all the excess is out =]
Neverstrayed; bleaching is only needed if you want to dye your dreads a bright rainbow colour, like purple or blue. If you are just dying a "natural" colour in permanant dye, you skip the bleaching step.
Is Afflecks still going? I heard it was shutting down... I was told about someone who went to an afro-Caribbean salon for theirs, and they got liquid latex too. ><
Yea can tell the difference easily critik! I suppose only if you're looking for it though. Not sure if Afflecks is shut down, haven't been for a couple of years. I live in Burnley 45mins from manchester. It's okay but gets a lot of stigma because of the race riots. My friend had liquid latex dreads, he said it was really nasty.
