Submission to God's will. "Let your will be done [no more, no less]". Realizing our own mortality.

    It means to be modest.
To know your limitations and weaknesses as well as stregnths.
I also think it means to do whatever you do in the right spirit, without making a big song and dance about it, or neccesarily craving for some form of recognition or reward.
In relations with others it is being open to other people's needs, sensitivities, and their point of view.
Not assuming that we always know all the answers.

For the past few months i've been dwelling on the idea of forgiveness, in the sense that we are not separate from eachother ...and this brings humility, and also after mutch discussion of ego on these boards, which is fine in itself, in order to understand a way of percieving ourselves and others ... yet it brought me to a place where i started to think "Why not just see people for who they are rather than who they are not"... to stop viewing everything through a lense of judgement.
If you read the two quotes in my signature, ... this for me comes some way to understanding the essence of humility.

I don't get your meaning here? How is being humble opposed to doing nothing? Anyway, sometimes 'not-doing' is the humble thing to do.

Submission to God is actually you seeing the plastic nature of the ego for the first time.

You'll wonder why you were ever such a fool and vow never to indulge it again.

But like an open bag of potato chips...

Not to worry. By the end of the picture, boy does get the girl.

to be humble is more than I can know and make myself be, to be discovered with God, and always improvable

doing nothing is giving up, but being humble brings me to keep on seeing how I can be with God and share with and love people, and not just certain favorites I hope to use > God wants to be personal with me; so if I'm occupying myself in what I think I know and what I can choose and judging others, I'm evading being personal with God > and conceited would be me judging who is good enough for me to love and worth my attention, humble would be how I'm not too good for anybody (o: it's just, how can I be good for each person?

so . . . this is a good question for me > I'd say being humble means not being so fast to judge and criticize, but instead be busy with seeing how God really wants to do things with me and how this has me caring about others and seeing how I should be good to them, but able to take no for an answer and see however I'm not really right for whoever and whatever

trusting God to make me succeed at all this > I have been so able to fool my own self and not even know the diff (o:

    humility=selflessness.

we choose to make our will Gods will. humility is excersizing thinking of life in terms of how we effect jesus, the others around us, and this world as a whole. its an epedemic game of dominoes. we are all connected, therefore..humility comes in handy to link the broken bits back together. humility & LOVE.. are some of God's favourite glues.

QUOTE from comfY78: "but... (being),... able to take no for an answer and see however I'm not really right for whoever and whatever"

What God has in store for us at the cash counter, is not something else from what He had in store earlier with our friends, or earlier still at the public gathering. If only NO. was also the conscience of being Born and Dying: the awkward leading to the graceful, and back to the awkward.

    I also said no.

When I think of humble, I think of Jesus Insisting that he wash the feet of all of his disciples before anything else take place...

To be humble is to fully realize the ultimate truth about who and what you are. Nothing more, nothing less.

You are not your desires, your ego, your culture, your body, beauty, or your brains,
You are not your wealth, your fame, or your power,
You are not the worst thing you have ever done,
Nor are you the best thing you have ever done,

    You are . . .

A formidable task. But does this task occur in the course of our LOVES (where the act for realizing should be finite and after-all it just would mean 'taking it easy'), or occur in the course of LIFE (where the act should point out ultimate humiliation for the meaning 'I don't care; the world is pointing out really what I think I was')?

Love is certainly connected to humility. Love and humility are variations of one another.

If humility is the full realization of the ultimate truth about who and what you are, Love is the full realization of the ultimate truth of your loved one(s).

You can only know anyone, or anything, to the extent that you love them. Love respects the essence of the loved one. Love is peaceful, joyous and more alive in the presence of the loved one. Love celebrates the loved one in every way that can be experienced.

Think about your greatest loved one, about how much better you know them than you do anyone else. Even if it's not an individual human being with whom you have a relationship. Think about how much more you know about your passions than you do about . . . well . . . your UN-loved ones. For example, it would not be uncommon for you to know far more about your favorite band than you do about most of the people you see everyday.

Without Love, you accept an incomplete fiction about whoever or whatever has gotten your attention. It is the same whether the subject of your attention is yourself or another.

The incomplete, inaccurate stories we substitute for ourselves and others ARE our ego. These stories may be valuable, but all-too-often they distort the truth about oneself and others.

Both Love and Humility are a kind of openness to the reality that transcends the ego.

    Peace and Love
