If anyone has any advice on the best way to backpack around the country then i'm all ears. I need some more knowledge.
get a car, learn to fly a sign, learn to dumpster dive, learn to make things and sell them on the street, busk, ask for change, curb your consumption, hitchike, know cool cities or places to go. just do out and do it.
Hiking that discovery trail would be sweet, id have to condition myself for a couple weeks though before i went on something like that. Also im sure its not cheap as far as food goes for all those months.
Uhh... flat. As far as food goes if you're going to be on the trail for extended periods you want a higher fat, high carb load. And that's actually pretty cheap unless you're a vegan.
Depends why you're backpacking... If you're looking to visit mutiple cities to see what is out there, then I suggest you ride a greyhound and book stays at hostels. Im actually about to ride to Asheville and stay a few nights in a hostel downtown. Greyhound passes become considerably cheaper if you buy 7-14 days in advance and hostels are usually cheaper during the week. peace
I was joking, Sonik. Go to Youtube and search for contributor DEVELOPEXEC. That's my friend Mike "LionKing" Daniel. He's hiked all the major trails in the US (including the ADT) and filmed the hikes, made documentaries of them. There are almost 50 episodes in his thru hike of the ADT, it took him about 16 months to hike it (both north and south corridors) and he lost about 50 pounds on the way. See what it's like to wake up in Iowa at dawn, iced into your tent. He also has films on YT of his PCT hike and I think one of his several AT hikes. Check em out. And if you ever meet him on the trail give him a hug from Aaroniguana.
oh man, that guy is incredible. Just watched a few random episodes but I think I might actually watch the whole bit. Most impressive! Walking roads does indeed suck! Did you meet him on the trail?
No I first met him on Whiteblaze.net. Then, almost two years ago, I was driving down route 450, a backroad between Annapolis and DC, and came upon him on the first leg of his ADT hike. I mean lets face it, he's hard to miss... Then saw him again at TrailDays in Damascus and at the ALDHA Gathering. He remembers EVERYONE he ever meets. Then last Winter, hiking the Rockies was rough and he went over-budget on hotels. So we put some stuff together for him so he could finish.
