Once upon a time, TV was the domain of a peculiar sub-species of human known as a network censor. In the event of a naughty word, they would employ a number of sound effects to cover whatever word everybody filled in in their heads anyway. The Roadrunner "Beep Beep' was always popular, as was the Ahh-Oooh-Gah horn. Remember when? Bet you do. x
It still exists to this day. Why do you think they must have a 7 second delay on all live television in the US?
Gods........I remember those days , where I grew up , the local radio station was A.M. , and certain rock songs they did the same thing with , bleeping out words in the lyrics they thought were too offensive to play !
Things have gotten high tech today. For example, some of the U.S. TV networks are using video software to 'erase' the nipple bulges on female TV actors. Yes, things have gotten this prudish in the U.S. .
Of course they have gotten a more lot prudish. Look back a few years when that show about the cops, firemen, ambulance drivers from NY city was on (I can't remember the name of it). They started going to far in showing side views of topless women and such. The networks were trying to keep up with the times but the government made them stop it. The only difference between the censors of yesteryear and today is that today it isn't as obvious, todays censors have high tech to take care of most of it and a 7 second delay to modify anything off live tv. I've always wondered about US tv as they are the most censored of all the western tv networks. I live in Canada and from the time I was a teen to today there has always been things like full frontal nudity on the over the air networks. Got rabbit ears and you shall see it. It is a lot more prevalent on the French language channels but it does show up on the English channels too. In fact when a canadian network showed The Sopranos first season (when season 3 started on HBO), they showed it at prime time unedited and commercial free, all the boobs all the swearing. This is on a network that anyone with rabbit ears can get country wide (and also for americans that live close to a canadian city. Have you ever seen any European tv? They show more than the Canadian channels. Hell some of their commercials show topless women.
i thought it was 2 mins... However I am frequently wrong As for censorship I think there is a certain purpose Not everyone enjoys foul mouthed things
European TV is loose compared with the U.S. EuroNews was showing a news clip about nudists at a restaurant and showed the women bare-breast. News clips about fashion occasionally show women bare-breast. Something like that would never be seen on a regular U.S. channel. The nipple bulge in the clothing is too much to handle. .
