Hi, I'm fairly new to this group--I decided it was time to start contributing rather than just reading. I like to go barefoot in the summer when it's warm (it's only warm about 3-4 months out of 12 here in Canada). Usually I start out wearing flip-flops, but take them off and walk around when I get tired of having something between my feet and the sidewalk. My favorite place to walk around barefoot is downtown, or in places where bare feet aren't usually expected (flea markets, stores, etc). My feet usually get pretty dirty, but I don't mind that. Anyone here like walking barefoot downtown? Any interesting experiences? How do you deal with people staring at you? That's the only thing I haven't been able to completely overcome yet. It's stupid I know, but I still worry about what other people will think. M.
Heyyy welcome!! Well if ur feet get dirty, u can jus walk on grass! anyways well its funny what people say, they think ur going to get terriably sick with some rare disease or something. and some places are like 'uh you arent allowed to be barefoot in here, blah blah'. well, i know it can be embarassing because some people tottaly stare and laugh or make dumb commets. but you just have to have a sense of humor about it!! plus its not like you know these people, and they don't know you...so you can just smile back at them or make a joke of your own. I mean, i dont know why people think going barefoot is such a big deal? haha its just FEET! and even if they do know you...they'll get over it!!! hehe. i mean its normal 2 care about what people think, but dont let it control u! i mean sometimes i care what they think, but its way funner and better to not care. because i think 'whats the worst they can do anyways??' and plus if u have the self confidence, then thats all the matters! well sorry this a LONG post but yeah!
ive been barefoot in town, shopping, carnivals, movie theatres. doesnt bother me. my feet are filthy after a night out.
I go barefoot everywhere, so that includes downtown. I can't recall any recent interesting experiences. As for staring, I don't think it happens too often (or I don't notice). When I do, I usually just stare back.
I've started going barefoot more. I was always told when I was younger to wear shoes, even playing outside in the backyard. I've never understood what the problem was with walking barefoot. I think if more people did it they would realize how much better it is.
to the bird has flown.... since your new..what places have you gone barefoot before....since you live newyork/jersey..would you consider going barefoot on the subway?
Not sure... the subways in manhattan are pretty bad. There slimy & wet & people do odd things there, haha. New York City on a whole strikes me as being a bad place to walk barefoot. When I came to school I walked around barefoot every chance I got. I'm still pretty new at it but we'll see what happens this spring.
couple of years ago, i read about this, take a look at the pics. its from barefooters.org..something like that..they actually went barefoot in the subway and all day in new york.
i think the old guy looks like he's thinkin.. 'what the hell, i knew i forgot somethin!' lol I imagine that the dirt from the subway would be like soot... so it would come off easier... would i be wrong?
I've been barefoot in the subway, Grand Central, the Village many, many times! It used to be common to meet at least 6-10 other true barefooters on a Saturday. Not anymore, sadly. Your feet get totally black, tops and bottoms. Cities and stores are great places to barefoot! I found the stairs in Grand Central to get your feet the dirtiest.
Hey flowerchild89, How many times do you actually wear shoes during the week? Do you ever have to wear them? (I hope not anyway). What does your family think? Man I wish you would post some pix of your feet!!
