..harm your hair/scalp as a whole? the texture and everything about leaving it there is so much fulfilling than watering it out .. or will it actually slow down the process? do people from beach areas wash them with tap water after wetting it with sea water? hmmm...
I heard you should only leave it in for and hour because it can really dry out your hair. but thats just what i heard
And yes im sure after the ocean most people would wash i would. but im sure theres times when people dont.
But going in the ocean and swimming an letting that hot sun dry your hair up will help the locking process
It all depends on a few things: 1. Everyone is different. 2. Consider your scalp/hair type. I leave sea salt in my hair with no damaging effects. I have sprayed saltwater in/on it an left it for days. I make mine in a spray bottle with SEA SALT. I have also left salt water from the Mediterranean Sea and Pacific Ocean in my hair, with no ill results.
^ i really need to try that the beach is mad far from my house though cant you just use salt and water?
Sea salt specifically had other things in it that regular salt doesn't. I'm not sure exactly what that does as far as helping/hindering the hair, but i keep a container of it in the kitchen anyway. tastes better than regular salt too in my opinion
Get some sea salt from your local grocery store. Don't used iodized salt, or table salt. Get something that is specifically sea salt. AFAIK, the other stuff can damage the hair.
I go surfing about 4 days a week and wash my hair once maybe twice. It drys my scalp out a bit but nothing terrible
i only wash my hair out from the beach cause of the sand that washes up in your hair, after its been air dried. I use made up salt spray but i dont wash it out till i wash my hair.
I live heaps close to the beach.. and yeah basically agreeing with the others.. leave it in then stay out in the sun and your locks awesome. whack a beanie on it and the end of that day they are dry and already dreaded. wash out later that week but yeah thts jst me...
I was just having a think about this whole sea salt / water is made of magic and win theory and it occurred to me that if you go to a _BIG_ aquatics shop you can get bags of the salts you use to make up sea water for marine tanks, it'll give you the correct ratio's too to make up reconstituted sea water.
I wouldn't recommend it. If you try this, do it "underneath" or in the back. What happens is the salt dries the hair out completely, causing it to become so brittle that it breaks. Be careful with TOO MUCH salt.
ill tell you now that going to the beach and putting your hair in salt water is one of the best things you can do to get your dreads nice and tight. you dont need to wash it out right away, you can leave it in for the remainder of the day. i'd definitely wash it out at night though. the salt water solution from a spray bottle works well too. i used sea salt in a squirt bottle. you can put it in for the day after a morning shower, but i'd wash it out again at night. salt can really do damage on ones scalp, the last thing you wanna do is have an itchy, peeling scalp; especially with dreads.
If it starts to feel like maintenance or "work" stop doing it. Otherwise, I hear it helps and I put a lil salt in with my shampoo (baking soda, sea salt, rosemary and peppermint and water)
