ive recently realized theres a very good chance i am bipolar. ive just begun studying my habits and ways and i am noting what makes a difference and what doesnt, and i cant help but think of the possibility that my choice not to eay any meat is a possibility. while chances are it most likely isnt, its saddening to think that i might have to even at least give eating meat a chance again for the sake of my mental health

eh...no. I'm bipolar. I was diagnosed 8 years ago. I've ate meat and been vegetarian and I have found no correlation between eating meat and mood.

With a serious matter like this, I would suggest that you trust your doctor rather than whoever chooses to post on this forum.

what on earth would eating or not eating meat have to do with being bipolar? it's about a chemical imbalance in the brain... not what you eat.

i wasnt saying whether or not eating meat or not would have been the cause of the bipolar, just wondering if changing to eating meat could make a difference in any sort of way, say, lessen the frequence of the waves of anxiety i get. obviously its not what caused it

My moms bipolar and shes stopped eating red meat, and her mood hasnt changed. Granted, she still eats chicken and fish, but still, if the eating animals and brain theory thing would really work, youd think cows flesh would be a big part of the brain and meat connection.

I would see a couple of psychiatrists, not just one, get a second or third opinion, before self-diagnosing yourself as bipolar.

Actually eating certain things can help to balance you out and it is not just for people who are bipolar or have other mental illnesses. You don't have to worry at all about meat helping you though, it won't. There are certain things that you can do to help your situation let me know if you're interested.

And I would say that it is pretty easy to self-diagnose something like bi-polar disorder if you know enough about it and yourself though I would rely on a doctor for treatment.

I used to have a mild case of bi-polar. Since I switched from margarine to butter and generally increased my saturated fat and cholesterol intake the bi-polar has gone. I have also managed to give up smoking. I am also more potent.
