Hello everyone, Im new to hipforums as a member all though I have been reading on them occasionaly. I feel like I need to vent on some things and maybe these forums are the right place to do it. I'll try to make this as short as possible.

I used to be a big stoner back in high school. Pretty much smoked every day for a couple years. I got pretty rediculous at some points but I still managed to do fine in school and not lose all my ambitions in life.

So I graduated high school and decided to go to school for aviation. I always wanted to be a pilot since I was a kid. So I went off to college, still smoking occasionaly (not nearly as much as i used to) and got my pilots license and a degree. I knew going into the career I would have to give up smoking pretty much forever.

Well anyways, Im 24 now and havent smoked in a couple years. Im a pilot for a regional airline (dont make shit for money if you can believe it) and although I enjoy the job I MISS smoking weed real bad. Ive had to seperate myself from high school friends that still continue to smoke because its just hard for me to be around it now. Every time I see it, smell it, or just around it Im tempted to smoke. I know if i did once I could probably get away with it (drug testing is random and doesnt happen very often) but I keep telling myself its not worth the risk. I would lose my job and end my career. Anyways I just had to rant and see if anyone else here is on the same boat as me (not being able to smoke).

    welcome to the forums brah.

yea, a lot of us have to be really careful about toking, and do not get many chances, just like a lot of us have been forced to quit, (or chose).

i'm able to enjoy the herb on the weekends, usually, unless i'm staying home. I have to be very careful because i have been caught twice. If i get caught again my parents are going to take my door, and pretty much all my privacy.
(first time i smoked i got caught for the first time, because i'm a dumbass, the second time i got caught when my parents basically raided my room, and found my stash... hahaha)

    cheers.
    later.

I am both happy and sad for you man. First of all welcome to the fourms. I would also love to learn how to fly but am a little sad to hear that it does not pay well. I am glad that I did not do that but when I win the lottery some day I will learn. Regarding your smoking. Have you ever thought about private airlines? They are not as strict or regulated as the bigger airlines. You many also be able to find a more "understanding" employer. Other than that you may be out of luck. I wish you could smoke because I feel that everyone should be able to do what they want but I also understand. I would not want my pilot being stoned, then again. I am one of those people who do not work stoned. I will drive that way but not as much. Good luck man and I hope you will be able to find a way to be able to do both.

Thanks for the replys. First off I would NEVER fly an airplane high! I think your right though, everyone should be able to smoke if they want. Smoking weed ocasionaly would in no way effet my ability to fly an airplane. I just wish it was something I could enjoy once in awhile on my days off. Just like alcohol, Im not gunna fly an airplane drunk but you better believe pilots like to drink!

Startreken - as far as the pay yeah it sucks starting out, down the road i'll make good money but its sad how much I make right now. Also, it doesnt matter what part of aviation you fly for there will always be drug tests.

Like I said before I dont feel its worth the risk but I feel that any day my mind could change and I'll give in and smoke. My friends want to fly to amsterdamn soon... that could be bad!

I am sure if your passport were to show that you were anywhere near Amsterdamn you would get drug tested. You are right you should be able to do what you want on your days off. It's a hard line for some people to tow but I try very hard to keep my social life and my work life as two different worlds.

this is cool because its the first time i've seen someone posting for the first time and it not be complete incoherent bullshit or something.
i would say look into a legal high or something but i know nothing can come close to weed.

one of my good friends with i smoke with at least every week is going to school right now to become a pilot and i know its going to be hell on him too not being able to smoke.

While not a pilot, but a mechanic, I got busted by the random pee tests. I kept toking during the follow up program and eventually failed again. I'm not sure if pilots get a second chance or not.

Either way you make choices and live with them. If you really believe in something you don't change just because of pressure or circumstances. You need to analyse if the consequences are worth the risk. I believed they were and am now living them. I haven't necessarily changed my mind but have endured some hardship.

I feel for you man, its absolute crap that they test for weed on pilots, yet allow them to drink on their free time. I also think drug tests are a violation of ones privacy.

but anyway, like others have said, its up to you. Evaluate the risk and benefits, and in this case it seems like the risk outweighs the benefits. Just my 2 cents
