There will be no public vote, this is all within the House of Commons. Canada has a very strange ministerial government system like the UK, Australia, and NZ. This is all internal House politics, so if our GG say YES to the Coalition, Dion will be our new PM. It's strange, and it might not sound like democracy, but it is simply one form of it with it's own weaknesses, like the american system is another form of it with it's own weaknesses.
I just want to see how this unfolds. It's remarkably strange. And as it stands, I am not for or against any politician. Just issues. Though Im not impressed. Aris: I see what you are saying about the equity issues, but there's no way in hell I'd believe anything will magically change with Dion or a coalition. In my opinion, every single politician is a talking head and there will be things they do that you dont like as well. Just need to pull the right strings. Which is why you are such a fantastic citizen. Fact is, Im a libertarian who voted for the Green party even though I dont expect them to win shit, I just want more of their influence. And think they could do with a far better leader than Elizabeth May.
As a discerning rule of thumb, I am an incredibly skeptical person, and I always ask a billion questions before I am ready to put down any solidarity.
So I read this thread and I think I now know what you guys are talking about. Harper was a crappy head of office and closed Government (?) and so now all the lefties want him to share the power because he cannot be trusted. Aris is for this, Cate and Waking are against. Am I right? or Am I awesome? Feel free to compliment me.
Thanks. Elizabeth May went on TV to announce that she supports the Coalition Government. Cate, if Harper successfully abolishes Political Party Subsidies like he was going to last Monday - it would be political murder for the Green Party. Every time you vote for the Green Party, roughly $1.85 goes to their Party. Harper is trying to take that away and bulldoze the spectrum to the Left of him out of existence. That's where more than half of the Green Party receive their funding. And Harper was < close to cutting it last Monday. That has a lot to do with why the Left is uniting - because they could become dinosaurs bones if Harper is allowed to cut their campaign funding.
The right is always more savvy than the left. This applies to fundraising too. Simply put, they know how to do it and the left doesn't.
They give tax cuts to CFOs who then donate to the Conservative campaign. The Conservatives have large databases of information from the public that they use to enforce widespread and comprehensive fundraising. Their donations are from the rich. In 2003, the Liberals lowered the donation maximum from $5,000 to $1,000. Liberal supporters used to write fat cheques of $5,000 towards the Liberal Party, while the Conservatives tended to be more conservative with their donations and hit near the $1,000 mark. What ended up happening at this point, the Liberals suffered a large cut to their donation support from the public. All because they wanted to make donations lower and more fair.
sounds about right....except the person who decided to prorogue parliament was not Harper....it was a Haitian immigrant who was appointed and speaks for the Queen
But Harper isn't economically savvy compared to the Left. Just a couple weeks ago Harper said "What economic crisis?" It just goes to show how out of touch with reality he is. He doesn't give a shit about the steel mills in Hamilton that are closing for 2 weeks this Christmas and the workers who are counting on that pay. Harper is cooking the books and faking a surplus by selling off the public's assets without their consent in a buyer's market. He was planning on selling off BCE and other property that belongs to the public, which he has yet to disclose. Have we all forgotten the defecit the Harper Government generated last year or does the entire public suffer from amnesia? How can we say that Harper is good with the economy when he's failing to put forth any stimulus to the economy? Because it's a lie. And Cate, if Harper has been so wonderful with the economy these past two years in your mind, please, elaborate on why you think he's the right man for preventing an economic meltdown. Here is what the Coalition Government has produced to help boost the economy: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/v5/content/pdf/1201accord.pdf They're going to help protect people's pensions, their savings, and all those investments that Harper promised seniors before he cut Income Trust funds and people lost their retirement money. So what's so great about Harper's plan, eh?
She's got a marketing job, and I don't want her to lose it at all. I would rather explain how a Coalition Government can unite the Left Parties who represent the majority of Canadians and put those people into power to pass the kind of legislation Canadians have been asking from all three of these parties. The people united, will never be divided!
Dude, none of them impress me. But having watched the televised debates, Harper is the only one who didnt seem like a wimp/irritating/douchebag. He IS a smart man. But I am definitely not going to follow a coalition.
