I found this thing at a plant store and it looked awfully familiar, but before I start hacking the poor thing up and eating it I was wondering if I could get some help in identifying it.

nothing active thats for sure. its definitely not a trich, therefore its no good for tripping. ive seen those in the nursery before. they are blue just like peruvian torches and have long spines but they are tiny. a real trichocereus needs a much bigger pot and grows much bigger. i think it's a toothpick cactus or something along those lines, a pilosocereus. a beautiful blue little buddy.... give it a nice spot in the window, not your belly.

She's a beauty though. I love how blue it is.

I wish nurseries would properly label everything.

home depot and other nurseries have mislabeled cacti all the time, so i can see why most places don't even bother labeling them. its a clusterfuck of an ID system really; so much confusion.and i used to think mushroom identification was sketchy...

Yea, that makes a lot of sense. I've heard of lots of cactus, in particular, being mislabeled from time to time. Lame.
