so my kitten had a bad case of fleas and i sprayed him with a flea spray without thinking. fleas litterally started jumping off of him...onto me. my arms, that is. i'm afraid some of them got into my dreads! any advice or opinions? i don't really think the fleas would stay somewhere they were forced into. that and the spray probably poisons and kills them. (i will NOT kill bugs. but fleas and parasites are the exception. they have no business sucking the blood out of my poor kitten!)
Sorry not sure about the fleas. I just thought it was funny that you say you won't kill bugs, and yet you have a picture of a kitten shooting himself in your avatar. lol
im pretty sure that fleas wont live on people. i find them on me sometimes because i have pets, but ive never been bitten and they dont try to live on me.
I flead/wormed my cat the other week and she's put on loads of weight since, made me feel really guilty. TBH I've never seen a flea on her and we have only 1 carpet in the whole house so she probably only ever had acute flea infections, she does catch about 4 rats a week so Im sure she has / had worms. As to your problem I'm 99% sure fleas cant live on humans for some reason, although I've heard weird stories off Irishmen involving sleeping in cow fields and massive fleas the size of your fingernail but they are probably bollocks.
Fleas will bite people, but won't live on them. I'm not sure why. However, I have transported fleas, as had one jump off of me at work or some other non-animal populated suchplace. You will have them on you as long as your pets have them, but if your pets don't have them, you won't continue to be where fleas hang their hat.
Fleas won't infest you. I've got 9 cats (all taken care of, trust me) and I've only found a flea on me twice in 20 years of life (usually just jumped off the cat and landed on my arm, as yours did). They will tend to get into your carpets, couches, beds and covers, etc though, so keep an eye on that stuff. The ones that were sprayed will probably die or at least not live very long after being sprayed. Don't feel bad! Your kitty gained weight because she had been eating for herself and the parasites. She's much better off without worms in her sapping her nutrients. She'll most likely regulate herself, but if she doesn't, you might have to regulate what you give her for a while. Even if she has to go on a diet, it's much better than having worms...
Oh thank God!!! Our roommate has a cat that she barely takes care of. It burns me up sometimes I have to buy it food (but that's another story entirely) Well I made my dreads last night and tonight I'm sitting on the floor playing with my girls and I see a couple jumping around. I immediately start tearing up thinking of chopping off my new found loves. Regardless, I'm stopping at the vet tomorrow to pick up some medicine and some sort of flea bomb. GRRRROSS!
) "They don't try to live on me" – This is sooo cute and funny. Don't ask me why is it cute though, I really don't know, but I get that feel, and I still got smile on I face. Thank you.
One time when i was sleeping my friend saw a bug crawl up my face and into one of my dreads haha. But we did a good check, and theres no infestation or anything. Just a little critter looking for a warm place to sleep .
Just curious here, I've never had any flea/bug problems, but if you did get a flea/s on your dreads, surely they wouldn't go into the dreads, like isnt the scalp wat they want? after reading this it looks like humans dont really get fleas anyway, im just curious.
fleas live in carpets etc, they only go to animals/humans to feed,, so its not necessarily the scalp they go for, cause theyre quite happy eating your feet and arms etc. ive had plenty of flea bites in my time =[ the best thing i can suggest is to try and eliminate all fleas.. get a decent house spray and go all round the edges of walls/floors, cause thats where they hide most,, spray & leave for an hour or 2, and then vacuum alot,, wash bedding more often,, simple things really. our cats have a thing called Stronghold, i dunno if you can get it where you are, but it works for them, and we spray the house quite often im pretty sure if they got into dreads theyd quickly leave,, if its the length of the dread then theres no blood for them,, and if its near the scalp, theyll feed and then hop off back to yer carpet =]
I had a major flea infestation last year. we got bitten to shreds as they are so hard to kill. They have this armor coating so even if you squeeze them they'll likely still be alive. But they weren't interested in our hair.
This is what my vet reccommended. Fleas are a major problem as even the fleas can carry the larvae of tapeworms which my dog got! I know a lot of people hate chemicals and crap (myself included, I do all-natural cleaners, champoo, even toothpaste) but I really recommend the room spray and getting your pets a pill-form preventative to stop them in the first place.
Citrus oil will kill fleas in all their stages on contact. Ace hardware and many whole food markets sell a product called Orange Guard... and the active ingredient is d-Limonene (orange peel extract) works great on fleas and other pests. When I moved into my house there was a severe infestation from the former pple. This stuff got rid of them fast.
Nope. I tried to squash them so freaking hard, let go to see if it was dead and they just jumped right out of my fingers. I had to use flea bombs and some R.I.P spray the vet gave us. It was a Ball ache moving furniture to spray the perimeters of all the rooms. Still to this day we don't know how it got so bad. Right? My friend said "submerge your cats in water for 10 mins and they'll die" HA! You try telling that to Milkshake my kitty boss
Well, we just moved in to a flea infested home too, battled with natural remedies all summer without much luck, (tea tree, cedar oil, lavender, diatameceous earth, vacuum vacuum vacuum ,etc) but for some reason they LOVED my 3 year olds head, don't know if its because she closer to the ground or if shes just delicous ,but I found multiple little bastards on her daily. Thankfully the flea season is over Northeast so they're gone now but YES they will live in your hair. (I bet everyone is scratching their heads now ) Just have someone check for you, especially around the hairline and behind the ears ....
eeek that is one of my biggest worries with dreads. I know fleas won't live on people but I'm scared a nits! Last year me and my husband got them bad. It was the worst! eughhh, we got them from his daughter who's 4. She's prolly gonna get them again since she's only a kid and we have a lil boy too. I would hateee to get them with dreads. would I just have to shave them off? we tried loads of creams and shampoos but the only thing that got rid of them was fine combing the fuckers out!
