Some prefer to live in the city and some prefer to live in the country. They find some advantages to choose one instead of the other. What's your choice?

My family and I live in a suburb, a very clean one without many problems, but still we'd really prefer to live in the country. We even purchase an empty residential lot in a small 1600 inhabitants village not far from our provincial capital. We think it's the best way for us to live in a peaceful place without being too far from the action and from services.

I live in a suburb and I can't stand it. You can't get away with anything, people judge you too quickly, lots of stuckup moms, and I just hate the whole "If you don't do sports, then you MUST do drugs, and need help".

I have lived in the mountains, I have lived in the suburbs, I am currently living in the city. I have found each have ass holes, snobs, corrupt morons, and blah blah. I would like to be away from it all! Now that you can get basically anything you want online, the country seems nice and quiet :)

I was actually going to move to the country, we had the house up for sale, and we bought 6 achres of land. We had the plans built for our new house, but this one didn't sell so I'm stuck D:

Oh, sorry for you... Houses must not sell very easily these days in the US, am I wrong?

Are you still the owners of the 6 achres?

Best of luck. I hope you will succeed in your plans of moving.

there is no option for small towns, neither city nor suburb nor country

the town i live in now has 5000 people but the next town of over 1000 is 40 miles away

i would like to live in a much smaller town, but still in town

I love the city right now, while I'm relatively young; we drive about half an hour to get out to hiking territory on the weekends.

As I get older, I figure I'll move further out. That makes sense, right?

I'm in a small (less than 6k pop)town that is very (10 mins) close to a city of +100k pop...I like being close to everything...but would rather be more in the countryside...or at least on a dead end street with less traffic

Ha...same. When I picture myself as an old guy, I always imagine that I'm way the fuck out in the woods somewhere.

i cannot get too far out as i hate cars and am determined to not own one again

buying food online is okay if you've planned well but it helps to be near something or somebody if you forget to order toilet paper

    i am no woodsman:D

My ideal living situation when I'm older is to own a shitload of land, having lots of privacy but still being within 20 min of a city

Cuz the suburbs sucks, just a bunch of houses with a bunch of losers... The city is ok cuz you can do whatever, whenever. But I do prefer country.

I plan on getting 30-40 acres of good, mostly flat forest. I'll build a cob house and camouflage grow house a little hike away. Hopefully with room to hunt and camp.

I grew up in a city, got married and moved to the suburbs, and retired and moved the country. Wisdom comes with age.

Man, I hear ya on that one. We own two houses and over the past 18 months one or the other has been on the market. We've decided to stay where we are in the larger house in the sticks and are trying to sell the smaller house in town.

That's pretty much my situation. We live in a tiny community about 14 miles away from a town of 3,000 people. Our neighborhood is mostly retirees, who are gone all winter, and only here from May to October. I think we have a told of 200 homes here.

It's quiet and we have wildlife in our front yard, and only two blocks from the beach.
