Today, December 8 08, I've decided to start my dreadlock journey. Since I'm doing them the natural neglect way, I know its gonna be a long journey, but I'm prepared and excited for what is to come. If anyone has any advice or words of support it would be much appreciated.

Also I have a question. I know that since I'm starting it with long hair (12-15 inches id say) I need to separate the forming dreads so I don't get one clusterfuck of hair....so do I basically just break big knots down into little sections and let it do its thing?

om, I wouldn't totally neglect them tbh. obvioulsy don't use any wax or anything but try and section them off by ripping. thats what I did and they are coming along amazingly! I didn't want a big log dread I want them kind of thin so their easier to manage.

Some days it will be great, some days it will be shitty. I've gone to be all giddy, thinking about the days to come.

Just take it one day at a time.

    Have fun.

well i sectioned and backcombed my sides a bit, but the back i left to it's own devices and actually they separated on their own into nice sized dreads and did their own thing amazingly well. i had to separate the side (the backcombed) ones constantly and never had to separate the natural/neglect ones. i don't know if this had to do with the part of my head the dreads were located at or the method i used with them or a combination. but it doesn't matter i guess because everyone's hair evolves differently when dreading. just don't neglect to rip if you need to, if you let it go you could end up with a huge congo you might regret
